Inter-District UT-Level U-14 Boys Hockey Tournament Commences at Astro Turf Ground Poonch

POONCH, SEPT, 21:-The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Poonch, today organised the Inter-District UT-Level U-14 Boys Hockey Tournament at the Astro Turf Hockey Ground, BHSS Poonch, with teams from nine districts of Jammu & Kashmir participating with great enthusiasm.

The tournament was formally declared open by DySP Headquarters, Mr. Neeraj Kumar Sharma, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He interacted with the young sportspersons and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports in providing meaningful sporting opportunities to children and promoting a healthy, disciplined and active lifestyle through sports.

The event was organised under the overall supervision of DYSSO Poonch, Mr. Mohd. Qasim, and Activity Incharge, Mr. Vijay Kumar Sharma. The tournament witnessed active participation and dedicated efforts by ZPEOs, PELs, PEMs, PETs, Rehbar-e-Khel Physical Teachers, NYCs and ground staff, who worked collectively to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.

The tournament also carried the important message of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, reinforcing the Department’s commitment to encouraging children and youth to adopt sports and healthy activities and stay away from drugs. On the occasion, 2,482 participants took part in activities organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan across the district.

As part of the ongoing Sewa Parv activities, around 720 players and participants from different zones of Poonch participated in various activities, further strengthening the spirit of community service, social responsibility and active participation among the youth.

The district also continued its participation in the Viksit Bharat Young Dialogue, with 485 registrations recorded today, providing young people an opportunity to participate in initiatives aimed at encouraging youth engagement and their contribution to the nation’s development.

Meanwhile, trial-cum-selection activities for the YSS Cup in Kabaddi, Cricket and Volleyball were also conducted in Zone Mankote, with around 89 players participating in the selection process.

In addition, a trial-cum-selection for U-29 Boys Cricket was conducted today in Zone Mankote, in which around 50 players participated. The selection activities were conducted by the concerned departmental field staff under the supervision of the concerned ZPEOs, including ZPEO Balakote and ZPEO Mankote, as part of the ongoing process of identifying and promoting sporting talent at the grassroots level.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports, Poonch, continues to provide a vibrant platform for young sportspersons by conducting competitions, selection trials, fitness activities, awareness campaigns and youth-oriented programmes throughout the district. The coordinated efforts of departmental officials, field staff, teachers, coaches and volunteers have contributed significantly to ensuring the active participation of children and youth in sports and other constructive activities.

The Inter-District UT-Level U-14 Boys Hockey Tournament, with nine districts participating, marks another significant step towards nurturing young sporting talent and strengthening the culture of sports in Jammu & Kashmir. The event also reinforces the collective message of building a Drug-Free Poonch and a Drug-Free India through sports, discipline and positive youth engagement.
