Supreme Court Grants Divorce to Omar Abdullah and Payal Abdullah After Mutual Settlement

NEWS DELHI, July 31:-The Supreme Court on Friday granted a divorce to Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his estranged wife Payal Abdullah after the couple informed the court that they had amicably resolved all their matrimonial disputes through mediation.

During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Omar Abdullah, told the bench that both parties had mutually agreed to end their marriage and had filed a joint application seeking a decree of divorce by mutual consent. The couple also agreed to withdraw all legal proceedings initiated against each other.

Accepting the settlement, the Supreme Court allowed the divorce, bringing an end to a prolonged legal battle. The couple had been living separately for nearly 17 years, and the dispute had earlier been referred to mediation before the parties reached an amicable resolution.

The judgment marks the conclusion of one of the country’s long-running matrimonial disputes involving a prominent political figure, with both sides choosing to settle their differences through mutual consent.
