POONCH, JULY 19:-A devastating flash flood triggered by heavy rainfall has left a trail of destruction in Lower Marrah village of Surankote Tehsil in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, claiming the lives of eight people, including women and children.

The tragic incident occurred after a sudden cloudburst and flash flood swept through the area, washing away houses and trapping residents. Rescue teams and local volunteers rushed to the spot, but the powerful floodwaters caused immense devastation.

The deceased have been identified as:

Sajad Ahmed (16), son of Mohd Latief
Haqnawaz Ahmed (10), son of Mohd Latief,Shahnawaz Ahmed (10), son of Mohd Latief,Khalda Kouser (25), wife of Yasar Iqbal,Sofian (2), son of Yasar Iqbal,Bano Bi (60), wife of Mohd Hussain,Mohd Akram (7), son of Mohd Liaqat.

The tragedy has plunged the entire region into mourning, with several families losing multiple members in the disaster. Local residents described the flash flood as sudden and extremely powerful, leaving little time for people to escape.

Rescue and relief operations are continuing in the affected area as authorities assess the extent of the damage and search for any missing persons. The administration has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured all possible assistance.

The incident stands as one of the deadliest weather-related tragedies in the Pir Panjal region in recent times, highlighting the destructive impact of extreme weather events on vulnerable mountain communities.
