***Hospital Administration Appeals Public to Await Inquiry Findings
RAJOURI, June 13:-Government Medical College & Associated Hospital (GMC&AH), Rajouri, has issued a clarification regarding the recent death of Ms. Nusrat Jahan, stating that the institution remains committed to providing quality healthcare services through its team of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and allied healthcare workers.
The hospital said that adverse drug reactions and unforeseen complications can occur despite adherence to established medical protocols, standard operating procedures, and necessary precautions. Such reactions, though rare, are medically documented worldwide and can sometimes lead to serious or fatal outcomes.
Regarding the case of Ms. Nusrat Jahan, the institution clarified that the matter is currently under investigation. According to a preliminary report submitted by the treating doctors and paramedical staff, the patient suffered a severe adverse drug reaction (anaphylaxis). The hospital stated that all necessary measures were taken to reverse the reaction and manage the complications.
A high-level medical team comprising the Heads of the Departments of Gynaecology, Surgery, Medicine, and Anaesthesia was constituted to monitor her treatment. Repeated dialysis procedures were also performed. However, despite sustained efforts by the medical and paramedical teams, the patient could not be saved.
The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has already constituted an inquiry committee to ascertain the facts and examine all aspects of the case.
The institution emphasized that healthcare professionals work to save lives and provide the best possible care, often under challenging circumstances. GMC&AH Rajouri has emerged as a major healthcare facility serving Rajouri and adjoining districts, attending over 1,500 OPD patients daily and managing a substantial number of indoor patients.
Despite heavy patient load, infrastructure limitations, and manpower shortages, the hospital continues to provide specialized healthcare services and performs thousands of surgeries annually across various specialties.
The hospital noted that while isolated adverse medical events may occur in healthcare institutions worldwide, every such incident is treated seriously. It reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in patient care.
The public has been urged to await the findings of the official inquiry committee and refrain from speculation or spreading rumours until the facts are established through the prescribed process.
