SRINAGAR JUNE 09:-In a major political development ahead of the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) and Panchayat elections, prominent social and political leader Mohammad Faheem Reshi, former contesting candidate from the 25 Eidgah Constituency and Chairman of Greater Shah-re-Khaas, on Friday announced that his group will contest elections in more than 40 wards across Srinagar.
The announcement has sparked significant political discussions across the Valley, particularly among the youth, as Reshi unveiled what he described as a “people-driven movement” aimed at reshaping grassroots governance in the city.
Addressing media persons and supporters, Faheem Reshi said the decision was taken to introduce “fresh energy, accountable leadership, and fearless public representation” into local governance. He emphasized that the campaign will focus on empowering young leaders, encouraging public participation, and addressing long-neglected civic and social issues affecting the people of Srinagar.
“The time has come to break the chains of traditional politics and open the doors for energetic, honest, and visionary youth leadership,” Reshi declared passionately.
In a fiery and emotionally charged statement, he raised the slogan – “End Khandani Raaj, Start Yuva Raaj.”
The slogan received loud applause from supporters, many of whom described the movement as a new political awakening for Srinagar’s youth and marginalized communities.
Reshi stated that the upcoming elections are not merely political contests but a decisive opportunity to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level. He stressed that governance must reflect the aspirations, struggles, and hopes of ordinary citizens rather than remain confined to a few influential political families.
He further announced that the Mayor candidate for Srinagar Municipal Corporation will also be fielded by their group, signaling their determination to emerge as a powerful alternative political force in the city.
“Our mission is public welfare, transparent governance, development, and dignity for every citizen. We are fully confident that the majority is ours,” Reshi asserted.
According to party representatives, the campaign will prioritize better civic infrastructure, improved sanitation, stronger public representation, youth employment, and responsive governance aimed at delivering visible change on the ground.
Political observers believe the announcement could significantly influence Srinagar’s local electoral landscape, especially among first-time voters and young citizens eager for a new political direction.
With election preparations gaining momentum, Faheem Reshi’s aggressive political outreach has already begun generating considerable buzz across Srinagar’s political circles.
