Baramulla MP Er Rashid waves to supporters as he leaves his residence to surrender before Tihar Jail

SRINAGAR, JUNE 02:– Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) president and Baramulla Member of Parliament, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, on Tuesday left his native residence amid emotional scenes to surrender before the Tihar Jail authorities following the expiry of his interim bail period. Reports said hundreds of supporters, party workers, and local residents gathered to bid him farewell as he departed for Delhi.

Engineer Rashid had been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court to attend the last rites and related ceremonies of his late father. The court had directed him to surrender on June 2 after the completion of the bail period.

Witnesses described an emotional atmosphere as Rashid greeted supporters and family members before beginning his journey back to Delhi. Addressing the gathering, he thanked people for their support and reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Delhi High Court has also granted him another brief period of interim bail from June 25 to June 30 to participate in the 40th-day religious ceremonies of his late father, subject to specified conditions.
