IG BSF Jammu Shashank Anand Encourages Youngsters to Adopt Sports Culture; Rajab Club and Mendher Club Shine in Finals
RAJOURI, MAY 23:-The district-level volleyball championship organised under the banner of “SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development Across the Nation” concluded successfully at the District Sports Complex Rajouri on Saturday amid enthusiasm and large public participation.
The three-day sporting event was organised by the Border Security Force Headquarters Rajouri in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India with the objective of promoting sportsmanship, communal harmony and awareness against drug abuse among the youth of Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Inspector General BSF Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand attended the closing ceremony as chief guest. He was welcomed by DIG BSF Rajouri Chander Mohan Singh Rawat along with senior BSF officers, officials of the Sports Authority of India, sports lovers and local residents.
The tournament witnessed participation from eight men’s teams and six women’s teams representing different areas of the twin border districts. Players displayed impressive talent, discipline and team spirit throughout the championship, while spectators applauded the competitive matches held during the concluding day.
In the men’s final, Rajab Club Rajouri secured the championship title after defeating Choudhary Club Rajouri in an exciting contest. In the women’s category, Mendher Club emerged victorious while Khokar Club Manjakote finished as runners-up.
During the prize distribution ceremony, trophies, medals and cash rewards were presented to the winning teams. The champions received Rs 25,000 while the runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000. Teams securing third position were also felicitated with cash prizes and certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, IG BSF Jammu Shashank Anand said sports play a vital role in shaping responsible and disciplined youth and appealed to youngsters to stay away from drugs and actively participate in constructive activities. He stressed that sports not only improve physical fitness but also strengthen unity, leadership and brotherhood among society.
Local residents appreciated the initiative and described the tournament as a positive step towards engaging youth from border areas in healthy and meaningful activities. They said such events provide an important platform for emerging players while spreading awareness about social issues and national integration.
The organisers expressed hope that the SPANDAN initiative would continue in future and motivate more youth to embrace sports as a means of personal growth, peace and social development.
