RAJOURI APRIL 07:-Amid substantial financial allocations aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, concerns are being raised over the lack of visible improvement in Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across Jammu & Kashmir.

According to sources, significant funds have been earmarked for infrastructure development, procurement of advanced medical equipment, medicine supply, dietary services, and maintenance of cleanliness to enhance patient care facilities. Additionally, crores of rupees have been sanctioned for the expansion of postgraduate (PG) seats, with 30 to 50 new seats being introduced across various GMCs in the Union Territory.

However, despite these considerable investments, the ground reality reportedly reflects minimal change in the quality of healthcare delivery and institutional efficiency. Patients and attendants continue to face challenges related to infrastructure gaps, inadequate facilities, and administrative inefficiencies.

Observers believe that the issue may not lie in the availability of resources but in their effective management. There is a growing opinion that these vital healthcare institutions require strong and capable administrative leadership to ensure transparency, accountability, and optimal utilization of funds.

Experts suggest that while medical expertise is crucial for clinical excellence, efficient administration plays an equally important role in transforming healthcare institutions. Strengthening governance mechanisms, monitoring fund utilization, and implementing result-oriented policies are being seen as key steps toward improving overall healthcare outcomes in the region.

The situation calls for a closer review by the concerned authorities to bridge the gap between policy planning and on-ground execution, ensuring that the intended benefits of these investments reach the common people.
