RAJOURI, MARCH 03:- Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma today chaired a meeting to review preparations for the celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 in the district.
The meeting discussed arrangements for organising a series of sports and fitness activities as part of ASMITA League (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and encouraging greater participation of women and girls in sports.
DC instructed that competitions including badminton, tug of war and Fun Activities will be held in Sports Stadium Rajouri, 100 metre and 200 metre races will be organised at DPL Rajouri, while a 400 metre race will be conducted at ALG Rajouri.
The events under ASMITA League are being organised in 250 locations across the Nation while in J&K, the events shall be organised in 3 locations including Rajouri. Women participants will compete in three separate age categories — below 13 years, 13 to 18 years and above 18 years — to ensure wider participation.
The Deputy Commissioner was informed that the event will be organised with the collaborative effort of Sports Authority of India, MY Bharat, Khelo India Centres, the SAI ecosystem and the State Government. The initiative aims to create a meaningful nationwide celebration of women’s empowerment through sports and fitness in continuation with the ASMITA initiative.
The DC directed the Principal of Government Medical College Rajouri to establish health, nutrition and dietician counters at the venue to facilitate participants and spread awareness about healthy lifestyles among women.
He further directed the concerned departments to set up stalls displaying IEC material related to various women-centric welfare schemes to create awareness among participants and the general public. Meanwhile District Social Welfare Officer Rajouri was also directed to ensure organising of Inaugural Ceremony of Gojri Caps.
To facilitate participation from remote areas, the DC also instructed the concerned officers to ensure adequate transport facilities for women participants from peripheral areas to and from the venue.
Among others, ADC Rajouri Chander Prakash, PO ICDS Harpal Singh, Nitin Hangloo Deputy Director MY Bharat Rajouri, Principal GMC Rajouri A. S. Bhatia, CMO Manohar Lal Rana, Principal Government Degree College Rajouri Anwer Shah, Executive Engineer PWD Rajouri Aftab Anwar, CEO Mohd Hafeez, DYSS Ali Mohd, EO Municipality Yousuf-ul-Umar and other district and sectoral officers attended the meeting.
