JAMMU FEBRUARY 16:-Jammu marked a major academic milestone in orthopaedics as renowned joint replacement surgeon Dr. Manuj Wadhwa conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “Journey Through Joint Replacement.”

With experience of over 55,000 knee and hip replacement procedures and recognition in the World Book of Records for excellence in joint replacement surgery, Dr. Wadhwa delivered an insightful and forward-looking address to a distinguished gathering of orthopaedic surgeons and healthcare professionals from across the region. He currently serves as President of the Indian Arthroplasty Association.

The CME provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of knee and hip replacement surgery — from conventional surgical techniques to today’s technology-driven, precision-based approaches. Dr. Wadhwa elaborated on advanced innovations such as computer-assisted navigation, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven surgical planning, augmented reality-guided procedures, customised 3D-printed implants, uncemented total knee replacement (TKR), high-flex knee designs, robotic-assisted surgery, and natural knee resurfacing techniques.

Presenting clinical evidence and global data, he highlighted how these advancements have significantly enhanced surgical precision, optimised implant positioning, and improved joint biomechanics. According to Dr. Wadhwa, the integration of advanced technologies has translated into superior long-term patient outcomes, faster recovery timelines, shorter hospital stays, and enhanced post-operative comfort.

Despite rapid technological progress, Dr. Wadhwa stressed that successful joint replacement continues to depend on meticulous surgical technique, appropriate patient selection, and personalised treatment planning. He emphasised that technology should complement — not replace — clinical judgment.

A key highlight of the session was the growing role of patient-specific solutions in modern arthroplasty. Dr. Wadhwa explained how implants can now be tailored to match an individual’s anatomy, bone quality, lifestyle needs, and functional expectations. AI-enabled pre-operative planning and augmented reality systems, he noted, allow improved visualisation and data-driven intra-operative decisions, boosting both precision and surgeon confidence.

Internationally recognised for his contributions to joint replacement surgery, Dr. Wadhwa has played a significant role in introducing and advancing arthroplasty technologies in India across knee, hip, shoulder, and complex joint reconstruction procedures. His clinical focus remains centred on restoring mobility, enhancing independence, and improving quality of life for patients suffering from advanced arthritis and degenerative joint conditions.

The CME programme in Jammu served as a valuable academic platform, fostering peer interaction, collaborative learning, and knowledge exchange among orthopaedic specialists. The event reinforced Jammu’s growing engagement with cutting-edge joint replacement practices and underscored the importance of continuous medical education in strengthening world-class orthopaedic care across the region.
