Annual flood protection works on river Tawi executed under UT CAPEX & NABARD

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 12:- Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana today informed the Legislative Assembly that flood management and protection works on River Tawi are executed every year as per approved plan under UT CAPEX & NABARD for River Training works and strengthening of embankments.

The Minister stated this while replying to a question raised by Legislator Surinder Kumar in the House today.

Rana said that several flood protection works have been undertaken under UT CAPEX, of which six works have been completed, while five are at various stages of completion.

He also informed that training of River Tawi from Manwal to exit of Indo-Pak Border at spots has been undertaken under NABARD.

The minister further informed that 3 new works have been tendered for restoration and strengthening of embankment of river Tawi for an estimated cost of Rs. 769.96 lakhs.
These works include the restoration of the earthen embankment on the left bank of River Tawi at Bikram Chowk upstream of Bikram Chowk Bridge, with an original cost of Rs. 577.03 lakh, against which Rs. 200.00 lakh has been proposed for BE 2025–26. The project has already been tendered as approved.
Another work involves the construction of damaged flood protection structures on the right bank of River Tawi near Hari Singh Park at multiple locations, estimated at Rs. 173.00 lakh, with a proposed allocation of Rs. 120.00 lakh for the ensuing financial year.

Additionally, the construction of flood protection works to safeguard houses and land on the left bank of River Tawi at Chak Malhori Bajalta has been proposed at a cost of Rs. 19.93 lakh, with full allocation proposed under BE 2025–26.
