MENDHAR FEBRUARY 11:-Residents of the area have expressed serious concern over the recent closure of the designated stand for Sumo, Taxi, and Xylo vehicles and its conversion into a private parking facility. While the public does not oppose the establishment of private parking spaces, this decision has resulted in severe inconvenience and hardship for thousands of daily commuters.
Through this press statement, citizens wish to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the growing difficulties faced by the general public, especially the economically weaker sections. Earlier, passengers could easily access public transport from the designated stand at reasonable fares. However, after its closure, commuters are now forced to travel longer distances on foot and depend on scattered and unregulated transport points.
As a result, transport fares have increased significantly. A journey that previously cost ₹30 now costs up to ₹50 or more, placing an additional financial burden on poor and working-class families. Moreover, people are compelled to walk nearly 01 kilometers to reach available transport, causing exhaustion and inconvenience.
The situation has become particularly distressing for elderly citizens, women, patients, children, and persons with disabilities. Many sick individuals are unable to reach hospitals on time due to the unavailability of nearby transport. During the rainy season, the condition of the roads deteriorates further, becoming slippery and unsafe, which increases the risk of accidents and injuries.
Women and elderly persons carrying luggage are forced to search for vehicles at multiple locations. Sometimes they manage to find an auto-rickshaw, and at other times, they are left stranded. In many cases, the additional money spent in searching for transport becomes equal to or even exceeds the actual travel fare.
This situation reflects a lack of proper planning and regulation, which is adversely affecting public safety, mobility, and access to essential services. It also raises serious concerns regarding fair transport practices and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights to safe and affordable movement.
In light of these hardships, the public respectfully appeals to the administration to take immediate and corrective action. Public transport vehicles should be allowed to enter the bus stand for dropping passengers and then return so that commuters can easily access transportation. Special consideration and facilities should be provided for patients, elderly citizens, women, and other vulnerable groups. At least the main road should be opened for public convenience to reduce walking distances and congestion. Strict action should be taken against unfair and illegal fare hikes, and proper monitoring mechanisms should be implemented.
The public firmly believes that these reasonable measures will significantly improve mobility, safety, and convenience for thousands of people. Timely intervention by the authorities can prevent further suffering and avoid any major accidents or serious incidents in the future.
We urge the concerned departments and decision-makers to take this matter seriously, review the current arrangements, and engage with public representatives to find a practical and permanent solution at the earliest.
The residents hope that the administration will act responsibly and in the best interest of the people, ensuring justice, accessibility, and public welfare.
