SRINAGAR FEBRUARY 11:-World Unani Day 2026 was celebrated with enthusiasm in Kupwara to mark the birth anniversary of eminent Unani scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan. The programme was organised by the District Ayush Office Kupwara under the aegis of the Directorate of Ayush, J&K (UT), and the National Ayush Mission.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad Khan, presided over the event as Chief Guest. He was warmly received by the Ayush officials upon his arrival. In his address, the ADC underscored the importance of the Unani system of medicine in delivering holistic, preventive and affordable healthcare. He emphasised the need to strengthen evidence-based practices to further enhance the credibility and effectiveness of traditional systems of medicine.
Dr Raja Amjid Ali, District Ayush Officer Kupwara, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the significance of observing World Unani Day on the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan. He elaborated on this year’s theme, “Innovation and Evidence in Unani Practice,” and briefed the gathering about various initiatives undertaken by the Ayush Department to strengthen Unani healthcare services in the district.
Dr Zaffer Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara, attended the programme as Guest of Honour, while Dr Mohd Ashraf Mir, Deputy CMO Kupwara, was present as Special Guest. The dignitaries stressed the growing role of traditional systems of medicine, including Unani, in strengthening public healthcare delivery.
The event was anchored by Dr Mohd Ayoub Marazi, Senior Medical Officer, who conducted the proceedings smoothly.
In addition to the inaugural session, technical sessions were held during which experts and Unani practitioners delivered presentations on research, innovation, clinical practices and evidence-based approaches in Unani medicine.
Medical officers, Unani practitioners and staff of the Ayush Department participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment to the promotion and development of the Unani system of medicine in Kupwara district.
