BJP Demands NLU Campus in Rajouri–Poonch, Alleges Neglect of Jammu Province

RAJOURI FEBRUARY 05:-Senior BJP leader and District Development Council (DDC) Member from Thannamandi, Abdul Qayoom Mir, on Wednesday strongly demanded the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) campus in the Rajouri–Poonch region of Jammu Province, terming the demand “genuine, overdue, and essential for equitable development.”

In a press statement, Mir said that the NLU for Jammu and Kashmir was sanctioned by the BJP-led central government in 2018, with the authority to select the site vested in the local government. However, he alleged that the National Conference (NC) government continued the trend of neglecting Jammu Province, particularly Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions.

He accused the NC of making a poll promise to establish the NLU in Budgam to influence a by-election, while completely ignoring Jammu Province, which, according to him, is more suitable due to year-round favourable weather conditions and better connectivity.

“Unlike Kashmir-based parties, we hold no hostility towards Kashmir and would welcome an NLU there as well. But justice demands that Jammu Province must have a campus, specifically in Rajouri or Poonch, to ensure balanced and inclusive development,” Mir said.

Expressing disappointment over local representatives, he said that MLAs from the region failed to raise the issue with the UT administration and instead remained silent. “Rather than holding the government accountable on core development issues, they are indulging in distractions by targeting opposition leaders,” he added.

Mir asserted that the BJP leadership stands united in pressing for the establishment of an NLU campus in Rajouri–Poonch and urged the NC government to fulfill the long-pending demand of the people of the region.

“The people of Pir Panjal have been consistently ignored while NC was in power. Establishing an NLU here would be a step towards delivering long-awaited justice,” he said.
