Release MLA Doda Mehraj Malik: MLA Mohd Yousuf Tarigami Raises Issue in J&K Assembly

JAMMU FEBRUARY 03:-Senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohd Yousuf Tarigami, on Tuesday strongly raised the issue of the continued detention of MLA Doda, Mehraj Malik, inside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, demanding his immediate release.
Speaking during the Assembly proceedings, Tarigami termed the detention of an elected representative as “deeply unfortunate” and against democratic norms. He said that silencing the voice of a public representative amounts to undermining the mandate given by the people.

“The House must take serious note of the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik. An elected MLA should not be behind bars. He must be released immediately so that he can represent his people,” Tarigami asserted.

The demand triggered reactions across the Assembly, with several members expressing concern over the issue and calling for adherence to democratic values and constitutional rights.

Mehraj Malik, MLA from Doda, was taken into custody earlier under circumstances that have sparked political debate and criticism from various quarters. Opposition members have consistently demanded clarity and fairness in the matter.

The issue is expected to resonate further both inside and outside the Assembly in the coming days.
