JAMMU FEBRUARY 01:-As the J & K government prepares to present the budget for the financial year 2026-27, the Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC), led by Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman and former Vice Chancellor, urged the government that border regions and tribal areas are given due consideration.
Dr Shazad said that people of border areas and tribals of J & K despite facing security threat, severe hardship and multiple challenges remained committed to the national cause.
The former VC while deliberating about the losses faced by border areas especially Rajouri and Poonch districts during May-2025 India-Pakistan Conflict stated that the upcoming budget must provide succor to the suffering people of these districts . Dr Shazad emphasized that development in these regions is not only about infrastructure or funds but also about providing security, dignity, and better living standards to people who have historically faced neglect due to geographic and social disadvantages.
He called on the government to allocate sufficient funds for key infrastructure projects including roads, schools, health centers, and water supply schemes in border and tribal areas. He also stresses the need for direct welfare programmes that help communities improve their livelihoods and create employment opportunities. Timely release of funds and proper utilization is essential to ensure that development initiatives achieve the intended impact and bring real benefits to the people living in these regions.
The BADC Chairman also demanded transparency and accountability in project implementation. He urged the government to strengthen citizen feedback and monitoring mechanisms so that resources are used efficiently and effectively.
