Call for Responsible Discourse on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

SRINAGAR DECM 28:-Waqar H Bhatti has expressed concern over the recent use of harsh and personal language by some individuals against Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Umar Farooq, urging people to maintain restraint and responsibility in public discourse.

Bhatti said that while criticism is a democratic right, there exists a fine line between constructive criticism and personal attacks, which should not be crossed. He emphasized that everyone is bound to follow the rule of law, and if any organization is banned, its name or platform cannot be used in violation of legal provisions.

Highlighting the religious stature of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Bhatti reminded that he holds a highly respected position in society and has also faced prolonged periods of house arrest in the past. In such a sensitive social and political environment, he said, words must be chosen carefully.

“We live in the same society and will continue to do so. Our paths will cross again and again. Therefore, caution, respect and maturity in expression are essential to preserve social harmony,” Bhatti added.

He appealed to all sections to uphold dignity in debate and avoid language that could deepen divisions or hurt communal sentiments.
