SRINAGAR DECM, 19:-Rather Roshan Ara, a young and emerging poetess from Jammu and Kashmir, today formally appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha to create a dedicated platform that promotes and amplifies the voices of young women poets across the region.

In her appeal, Roshan Ara highlighted the urgent need for public spaces, literary festivals, and institutional support that can help nurture local talent and integrate women’s poetic voices into the mainstream cultural conversation. Roshan Ara stressed that Jammu and Kashmir is home to a rich tradition of poetry and storytelling, yet many young women writers remain unseen due to limited institutional support, conservative social pressures, and lack of accessible literary venues.

“Our poems carry the hopes, struggles, and unique perspectives of a generation growing up in a complex social and political landscape,” she said. “What we need is visibility, mentorship, and spaces — physical and virtual — where our voices can be heard without fear or compromise.”

Her appeal calls for a multifaceted program including regular readings, mentorship schemes with established poets, writing residencies, publication opportunities, and digital showcases that reach national and international audiences.

The request also proposes collaboration between the Lieutenant Governor, cultural departments, local universities, NGOs, and media outlets to design inclusive programs that prioritize young women from diverse backgrounds, including rural and underserved communities. Roshan Ara emphasized the potential social benefits: greater cultural participation by women can foster dialogue, build community resilience, and create pathways for economic opportunity through literary careers and cultural tourism. She underscored the importance of safe venues and gender-sensitive outreach so that families and communities feel comfortable supporting young women who wish to pursue poetry and public performance.
