Locals Blame Poor Road Conditions and Overspeeding for Repeated Mishaps on the Route

RAJOURI SEPTEMBER 16:-A tragic road accident in Darhal’s Rekiban village on Tuesday morning claimed the life of a woman and left six others injured after a Tata Magic vehicle lost control and overturned on the hilly stretch.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when the passenger vehicle (JK11H-0487) was en route from Darhal to Rajouri. At a sharp turn near Rekiban Malikan, the driver allegedly lost control due to overspeeding, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash down the slope.

The deceased has been identified as Nazira Begum, wife of Munir Mohammad of Budkhanari village, who died on the spot. Local residents immediately rushed to assist in rescue operations before police and medical teams arrived.

The injured were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Darhal, where doctors confirmed that some victims sustained serious injuries and may require referral to Government Medical College Hospital, Rajouri, for advanced treatment.

The injured have been identified as: Mohammad Rashid (30), son of Mohammad Sadiq, resident of Darhal.Mohammad Anwar (24), son of Mohammad Mushtaq, resident of Bari Darhal. Nasrat Begum (53), wife of Badr Hussain, resident of Bari Darhal. Badr Hussain (60), son of Qazi Ullah, resident of Bari Darhal. Mir Mohammad (60), son of Noor Mohammad, resident of Darhal. and Shaheen Akhter (35), wife of Mohammad Yousuf, resident of Khoriwali.

Police have taken custody of the body for postmortem and initiated legal proceedings. An inquiry has also been launched to determine whether negligence or rash driving was the primary cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, locals expressed anger over the frequent accidents along this route, blaming poor road maintenance and lack of traffic regulation. They demanded immediate government intervention to repair damaged stretches and ensure stricter enforcement of speed limits.

The sudden demise of Nazira Begum has cast a pall of gloom over the area, with neighbors and community members extending condolences to the bereaved family. Villagers have also urged the administration to provide adequate compensation to the victims’ families.

This latest incident once again underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures in Rajouri district’s hilly regions, where such accidents continue to claim lives.
