RAJOURI SEPT 13:–Alert Security Forces (SFs) personnel on election duty have foiled a possible major terror attack either in Poonch district or in Rajouri district with the arrest of a terrorist associate linked to the J&K Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) and a resident of Rajouri district.
The terrorist associate has been identified as Mohd Shabir son of Mohd Farooq resident of village Daryala in Nowshera subdivision of Rajouri district.
Poonch police have recovered 3 HE 36 Chinese grenades, 3 mobile phones, explosive material, dry fruit and other indiscriminate material from his possession.
Reportedly, police have also recovered first time Cricket Ball type explosive (bomb)
Young Mohd Shabir, according to Poonch police, during preliminary interrogation revealed that he was in touch with one Azeem Khan @ Mudeer in Pakistan Occupied J&K (PoJK) and on his direction had gone to Surankote to collect the consignment from another associate residing in Surankote town.
The police said on Thursday evening (September 12) a joint ‘naka, team of 16 RR J&K Police and 38 BN CRPF at Potha bypass noticed the suspicious movement of Mohd Shabir coming from Surankote side.
As Shabir tried to escape from the scene after noticing SFs personnel, he was apprehended along with a blue bag.
On search of the bag the SFs recovered the consignment of hand grenades & explosives
He was immediately detained by the police for further questioning/interrogation.
Police have taken cognizance and on the disclosure of Mohd Shabir regarding his backward & forward links, police are expecting more arrests soon.
Meanwhile, senior police officers today visited Surankote to assess and to further tighten the security grid to foil any attempt of anti-national elements to disturb upcoming elections in both the districts.
“Whether Mohd Shabir was planning to execute a terror attack in Rajouri district or in Poonch, it was not disclosed by the police yet” sources said.
