RAJOURI JUNE 25:–In a meeting chaired by District President, Dinesh Sharma & held here in Rajouri at BJP office, the BJP leaders/ activists observed the imposition of Emergency on June 25 in 1975 as Black Day.
BJP leaders/activists gathered to remember and condemn the actions taken during this period, described it as a dark chapter in Indian democracy.
“The Emergency imposed in 1975 by the Congress Party is a black spot on Indian democracy. We cannot forget the atrocities committed by Congress on innocent Indians during this period. That is why we are observing Emergency Day as Black Day,” Dinesh Sharma stated.
“The Congress’ politically driven decision to impose a state of Emergency had shaken the very pillars of democracy as it tried to trample over the Constitution given by B.R. Ambedkar”, he added.
“Emergency of 1975 is an unforgivable sin of Congress Party. Before the President’s signature on the declaration papers, top national leaders like JP Narayan, Morarji Desai, LK Advani and AB Vajpayee along with hundreds of others had been imprisoned overnight,” said Dinesh Sharma.
Senior BJP leader Rajinder Gupta said: “The imposition of Emergency was a direct assault on the fundamental rights of Indian citizens. It is crucial that we remember this day to honour the resilience of those who fought against tyranny and to educate future generations about the importance of preserving democratic values. Our observance of Black Day is a testament to our commitment to democracy and freedom,”.
Manzoor Naik, General Secretary BJP Rajouri said: “The Congress talks about protecting the Constitution, yet it displayed utter disregard for it when the Emergency was imposed on the country. Civil liberties were curtailed, scores of people were jailed, and the media was gagged. Our effort today is to remind people about this event and ensure that such a dark period is never repeated in our nation’s history”.
Pushpinder Gupta, BJP General Secretary Rajouri said: “”The arrogant and autocratic Congress government had suspended people’s civil rights for 21 months for the sake of power to one family. Censorship was imposed on the media, the Constitution was amended, and even the judiciary was restrained.”
The BJP Rajouri Unit reiterated its commitment to safeguarding democratic values and freedoms, emphasizing the importance of remembering past injustices to prevent their recurrence.
The meeting concluded with a pledge to uphold and protect the democratic principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution and to continue working towards a just and free society for all citizens.
