RAJOURI APRIL 25:–Election Commission of India (ECI) on the request of National/State political parties, independent candidates for the rescheduling of the poll date in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat has sought road condition/weather, and accessibility related report from Chief Secretary and the Chief Electoral Officer of `UT of J&K.
Pertinently, Election Commission of India has received several written representations from various national/state political parties & independent candidates mentioning that this constituency falls in two divisions i.e. Jammu & Kashmir and only shortest connectivity is Mughal Road.
Mughal Road, characterised by its rugged terrain & high altitude, is presently encumbered by snow & prone to frequent landslides & closure due to heavy snowfall at Pir-Ki-Gali.
The parties are of the view that by May 7 (polling date) the road is anticipated to become fully motorable; however, the current condition of Mughal Road severely inhibits the candidate’s ability to campaign effectively & engage with the voters.
As per Election Commission of India’s letter to Chief Secretary & Chief Electoral Officer UT of J&K dt 25/4/2024, those who have approached the ECI for rescheduling of poll date (from May 7) include J&K People’s Conference (Imran Raza Ansari); BJP (Ravinder Raina); J&K Apni Party (Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari); J&K Nationalist People’s Fronts; Apni Party; Adv Mohammad Saleem Paray; Ali Mohammad Wani (candidate) ; & Arsheed Ali Lone (candidate).
“A detailed report on road condition & weather and accessibility related constraints shall be furnished apart from report on any other relevant points as contained in the representations or otherwise, to the Commission immediately” read ECI letter to CS & CEO of UT of J&K.
