Akhnoor-Poonch Highway: ADG BRO & Chief Engineer MoRTH inspects work progress.

RAJOURI APRIL 08:–Additional DG Border Road Organisation (BRO), RK Dhiman, and Chief Engineer Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Rahul Gupta accompanied by Chief Engineer Project Sampark, Brig Neeraj Madan, on Monday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing development projects along the Akhnoor- Poonch national highway (NH144A).
Pertinently, the upgradation, widening, and strengthening of two-lanes with paved shoulders of the National Highway -144 A from Akhnoor to Poonch is underway at present.
NH144A would have four single-tube tunnels for straightening of sharp curves and will reduce the journey from about 200 kilometres to 168 Km.
Akhnoor-Poonch road also known as ‘Golden Arc Road’ is a very old and highly strategic 200 Km stretch which connects South Kashmir & Jammu region to the West of Jammu Kashmir.
Additional DG BRO RK Dhiman along with Rahul Gupta and Brig Neeraj Madan during comprehensive inspection of Akhnoor-Poonch national highway project also inspected work completed on three tunnels including at Kandi, Sungal, and Nowshera.
The four tunnels would not only provide comfortable travelling experience but also would reduce sudden rise & fall of steep gradient and tight curves on Akhnoor to Poonch stretch.
The inspection was aimed to assess the progress and quality of the infrastructure projects, which are vital for enhancing connectivity and promoting regional development.
During the inspection, visiting officers expressed satisfaction over the progress made on the project, highlighting the dedication and expertise of the workforce involved.
The project involves construction of road, bridges, and tunnels. Upgradation of this national highway will significantly reduce travel time, enhance connectivity between regions, and provide all-weather accessibility, particularly in challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.
