Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace: GMC AH Rajouri organise awareness program

RAJOURI, AUGUST 02:–Government Medical College Associated Hospital (GMCAH) Rajouri in collaboration with Special Cell for Women, Rajouri, organised an awareness program on ‘sexual harassment of women at work place’ under the supervision of Principal GMC, Prof. (Dr.) A.S Bhatia & Medical Superintendent GMC AH, Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar.
In the awareness program Coordinator Special Cell for Women and Children Jammu Division, Miss Priksha Sharma interacted with Nursing staff and students of nursing college GMC Rajouri and delivered a PowerPoint presentation.
Social workers Ms Mohida Choudhary and Yogesh Sharma also participated in the program. Surinder Sharma, Counsellor- Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic GMC AH Rajouri threw light on the consequences of early marriage of female children and the health-related issues of adolescents.
Priksha Sharma said that the “Purpose of this interaction was to aware all about the sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The legislations related to sexual harassment of women were also discussed and covered thoroughly,” said Priksha Sharma.
The response of police personnel in the prevention and response to this Gender-based violence (GBV) is critical and demands sensitivity on the part of the system which can be strengthened through interaction on an ongoing basis, especially in the context of concerns for women’s safety, amendment of laws and the emergence of schemes pertaining to women and children,” she added.
During this interaction, Speaker revisited the perspective on gender-based violence basic concepts, current understanding, the nature of support sought from Police and other departments, and the dynamics of violence was discussed.
Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar while discussing the importance of awareness of sexual harassment at the workplace said that it is not only legal compliance, but also helps in creating a safe, equitable, & healthy work environment.
Harassment at the workplace jeopardizes the performance and well-being of the employees. It helps everyone feel safer and confident that their co-workers will step in to protect them against abusers if an incident ever occurs.
Workplace harassment can involve unwelcome words or actions that are known or should be known to be offensive, embarrassing, humiliating, or demeaning to a worker or group of workers.
It can also include behaviour that intimidates, isolates, bullies, or even discriminates against the targeted individual.
