Army foils Narco terror nexus in Jhangar Nowshera of Rajouri district

RAJOURI, MARCH 12:–Alert troops manning the Line of Control in the Jhangar sector in Nowshera sub-division in the Rajouri district in a major achievement has foiled Pakistan- sponsored narco terror nexus and have recovered a consignment of narcotics, pistols and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing about 2 kg.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently DGP, Dilbag Singh said that money generated from the narcotics trade has returned to Pakistan and subsequently used to fund terror activities in J&K.
Sources said on the intervening night of March 10 & 11 some movement was noticed in the jhangar sector along the LoC.
The targeted area was kept under surveillance and during searches on Saturday the Army recovered a sealed packet.
On the opening of the packet, the army recovered 2 packets of heroin-like substance (2 kg); 2 brand new pistols, and about 2 kg IED, reportedly ready to use.
PRO (Defence) Jammu, Lt Col Davender Anand said that based on intelligence inputs, Indian Army conducted operations near the Line of Control at Jhangar, Naushera (J&K) on 11 Mar 2023.
“The Operations led to the recovery of two sophisticated Pistols, two kgs Narcotics and a two kg IED.
The Operation has averted a major incident which could have been initiated by perpetrators using the weapons and the IED, funded by the narco terrorists, PRO said.”
On March 3, during a joint search operation by the Poonch police, army & CRPF an input was developed about the presence of narcotics, arms, ammunition and illegal cash in the house of one Mohd Rafi @Rafi Lala son of Sher Mohd in Dhana village, is presently booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and lodged in district jail Poonch.
During the house search, carried out in presence of Executive Magistrates 1st Class Mandi, member Pnachayat , Lambardar, & Chowkidaar, forces recovered 7 kg of heroin; one pistol with 10 rounds; one pouch and Rs 2.23 crores and 1500 US Dollars.
“We are faced with a new challenge where the drugs and weapons are smuggled from Pakistan together. A major part of the drug proceeds (money) are returned to handlers operating from across the border and the rest shared by the peddlers. The weapons are delivered to terrorists,” said DGP.
