RAJOURI, JANUARY 22:-‘Rajouri police in the late evening hours on Sunday defused two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Chingus area which the police recovered from densely populated ward No.1 (Kheora of Rajouri MC) on January 18 and from the Dassal area on Sunday (today).
A Bomb Disposal Squad defused the IED without causing any harm while the huge sound of the blast caused panic among the residents of the area.
Sources said that one IED was about 1Kg (Dassal) while another was half kilogram & both have caused loss to many lives had they been triggered.
“An IED already recovered from Kheora and another recovered on Sunday from Dasal on the leads of ongoing investigations, were defused in the evening on Sunday. Further details will be shared on Monday,” said SSP, Mohammad Aslam.
In the wake of Dhangri massacre followed by an IED blast the next day, the police, Army, and Para Military Forces launched several search operations in the entire Rajouri district and have averted major tragedies by recovering the IEDs.
On January 18 panic gripped the densely populated Kheora area (ward No-1) of Rajouri Municipal Council when a suspected IED planted in a Tiffin box was detected by the locals under a parked truck in an open area.
Immediately after the recovery of Tiffin IED, intelligence agencies swung into action; under the overall supervision of Dr. Haseeb Mughal, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Police Range; and reportedly some suspects were rounded up on CCTV footage that led to the recovery of IED from Dassal.
Meanwhile, District Rajouri police have denied recovery of an IED in Kotrnaka (Jaglanno area).
“A suspicious object with blinking lights recovered from Jaglanoo under police station Kandi is not an IED, but an electronic device with blinking lights,” said the police.
The public is advised not to panic and spread rumours. The area has thoroughly been sanitised by a team of district police, 60 RR, and CRPF.
In the wake of increasing terror incidents in Rajouri & Poonch districts (also ahead of Republic Day celebrations), the Indian Army organised a joint Intelligence & Security Conference with senior officers/officials of CRPF, BSF, J&K Police & Intelligence Agencies to review the prevailing internal situation based on the assessments of participating agencies.
