NIA arrest Mohd Shamshi, Chairperson AHET Rajouri in suspected funding activities

RAJOURI, OCTOBER 11:–The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a raid conducted in Rajouri town in UT of J&K has arrested a Chairperson (Nizam-e-ala) of the Al Huda Educational Trust (AHET) namely Mohd Ameer Shamshi in connection with suspected funding activities.
According to reliable sources, Shamshi during the peak of militancy was also active and was actively associated with Hurriyat and was very close to Geelani.
NIA spokesman said that Mohd Ameer Shamshi of Rajouri has been arrested in the case RC-07/2022/ NIA/ JMU, related to suspect funding activities of AHET, Rajouri, J&K.
NIA sleuth on Tuesday conducted searches in the AHET & at the residence of Shamshi simultaneously situated in Ward No.2 of Rajouri Township.
NIA spokesman said that Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) J&K, after being declared as an ‘unlawful association’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)Act), has been continuing its activities through its frontal organisations.
One such organisation is Al Huda Educational Trust( AHET) of district Rajouri which has been found raising funds through various means, including donations, hawala etc purportedly for charitable purposes.
“But instead of using funds for charitable purposes, AHET using these funds to radicalise and incite the youth of J&K for unlawful activities and disrupt the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India,” said NIA and added accordingly NIA had registered the case on 3.09.2022.
NIA further said that investigations have revealed that the arrested accused Mohd Ameer Shamshi is the Chairperson (Nizam-e-ala) of AHET and acts on the directions of the Chief Patron of the Trust.
NIA investigations have also revealed that the ex-officio Chief Patron of AHET is the Ameer-e-Jamaat, JeI (J&K).
The trust has continued to raise funds even after the declaration of JeI, J&K as an ‘unlawful association’.
Suspect links (of AHET Rajouri) with other NGOs and trusts operating in the Kashmir valley have also emerged during investigations.
“During the searches conducted, several mobile devices and documents related to funding, properties, etc have been seized & further investigations in the case are in progress,” said NIA spokesman.
Reliable sources said that NIA teams have also raided the residences of a doctor (resident of Shopian, Kashmir) located near ITI Rajouri and an employee of PDD resident of Mendhar town.
Details related to both are awaited.
