About100 structures demolished during double laning of Rajouri-Thanamandi road

RAJOURI, JUNE 02:–On the direction of Vikas Kundal, District development Commissioner (DDC) about 100 structures, including shops & residential houses have been demolished during ongoing double lane construction work on a vital Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankot road.
;,These structures were coming in the way of the new alignment of double laning of this important road and were hampering & delaying the work.
The demolition drive was conducted by the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Thanamandi, Dr. Vikas Dhar Bagati, along with Tehsildar, Thanamandi, Syed Sahil Ali.
Earlier, several notices were served to the owners to vacate the structures, but many among them adopted delaying tactics.
“Advanced notices were served to the owners of structures to vacate the buildings and the drive was conducted as per the schedule,” said Dr. Vikas Dhar.
The public of the area was made aware of the drive on ‘public announcement system’ as well.
“So far 93 shops and 8 residential houses have been demolished in Villages Nerojal and Saj under Thanamandi Sub Division, ” said the SDM.
Dr. Vikas Ghar said that the demolition drive will continue to clear the complete stretch of Rajouri-Thanamandi road.
He also appealed to people to extend cooperation to the administration so that the project can be completed within the stipulated time.
The public of the area also welcomed the drive by the administration as it shall lead to early completion of the road project.
The work on this important BRO project was kick-started in 2021 by the then DDC, Rajesh Kumar Shavan.
Rajouri-Thanamandi- Surankote road is one of the vital roads of the BRO in the Pir Panjal region which connects the border district Rajouri to the Mughal road.
The road is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 284.22 crores. The public demand for this road was 40 years old and was hanged for the last 18 years.
