UDHAMPUR MAY 21:–District Police Udhampur held an awareness programme in Shaheed Insp. Kamal Singh Govt. Boys Higher Sec. School Udhampur to spread the awareness regarding the ill effects of narcotics, drug addiction, traffic rules among the students.

The event was organised on the direction of SSP Udhampur Dr. Vinod Kumar -IPS. Station House Officer Udhampur Inspector Chaman Gorkha chaired the event alongwith PSI Sahil Singh, Dr. Devika Sharma (Drug Councellor), Afia Nazir and Azra Parveen Social Workers at special cell Women Police Station Udhampur.

SHO Police Station Udhampur Insp. Chaman Gorkha interacted with the students and spread awareness about the new traffic rules and appealed them to obey traffic rules, wear helmets while driving, also made aware about merits and demerits of social media, online frauds, cyber crimes etc.

While Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Devika Sharma, Drug Councellor ( Drug De-addiction centre DPL Udhampur) stressed on the importance of reaching out to the youth to educate them about the menace of alcohol, drugs and substance abuse. The participants were encouraged by her to protect themselves and their friends against drug addiction and also advised them to make their future career bright instead of indulging in falling prey to drug abuse. They were also told about prevention and rehabilitation through drug de-addiction centres.

Social workers Afia Nazir and Azra Parveen in their address to the participants to make them know about the consequences of drug addiction which affect not only the person itself but family too. They said that indulging in abuse brings mental as well as physical stress to the victims which makes them vulnerable to other anti social activities and the best remedy is to participate in various sports and physical activities to keep oneself away from drugs and channelize your energy into positive mode.Besides, Social workers from Special cell for women threw light on the role of the Cell (a project by National Commission for Women) and stressed on gender inequality and domestic violence and its types.
