HANDWARA MAY 07:– A vehicle loaded with “illicit timber” was seized on Saturday by forest department officials in Baghtpora Handwara village of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A forest officer told that acting on a tip off about the movement of a vehicle with illicit timber in bagathpora Handwara, a special team of officials under the command of DFO Langate Ab Hamid Malla and Range officer Rajwar Gh Nabi operation got carried out to trace the vehicle.
“The vehicle was intercepted in Baghtpora Village and the driver was asked to stop but he did not cooperate with the officials, tried to flee from the spot.
After hectic efforts, the officials managed to seize, however driver with other smugglers fled from the spot.
Official said, the other offenders have been identified and will be taken to task soon.
The timber seized is 17.68 Cft logs was to be smuggled in TaTa Cab bearing registration number (JKO9A 1788).
Meanwhile, a police complaint to be lodged in concerned police station for further investigation, he added.
