Fisheries department plans to introduce Japanese fish in Rajouri.

RAJOURI JANUARY 15:– In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Rajouri Fisheries Department has planned to introduce Japanese fish for increasing fish production in the district.
The information was given in a meeting held here at Rajouri on Saturday which was chaired by the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Vikas Kundal to review the functioning of the Fisheries Department.
Presently Fisheries Department of the J&K Government is providing employment opportunities to the unemployed youth of Rajouri district by providing Trout fish farms in the cold region in Thanamandi tehsil under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) scheme.
Assistant Director (AD) Fisheries, Munish Sharma informed that there are two fish breeding farms in the district, including a trout farm at Phalni in Budhal and one carp farm at Muradpur.
“In capture fisheries, there are 792 registered fishermen in the district who are dependent on fish catching only. Major fish in the areas include snow Trout, hill stream fish, and Mahashir ” said the AD.
The AD added, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in the district is aimed to enhance production through expansion, intensification, diversification, and productive utilization of land and water.
Vikas Kundal, DDC said that with the abundant availability of water resources the district has a huge potential in the fisheries sector and asked the concerned officer to promote it as a lucrative self-employment option.
“For the introduction of the Japanese fish in the district, culture species in ten fish farms on a trial basis to check the possibility of its survival,” said DDC.
