Jammu, January08 : Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference(JK_BADC) a registered organization working for the welfare of border areas of J & K today demanded immediate announcement of relief package for the people affected with week-long continuous rain-snowfall spell in entire J & K UT.
Dr Shazad Malik, former Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of the JKBADC today urged the union government and Manoj Sinha , Lieutenant Governor of J& K to announce immediate relief package for the rain, snowfall affected areas due to week long spell of bad weather.
The former VC said that people from Hilly, remote and border areas of the union territory are worst hit of this bad weather and despite efforts by the government machinery at several places the power and water supply of these areas are badly affected. Due to continuous rain and snow even the road and telecommunication connectivity of remote areas are blocked. He further added that several people remained stuck on roads for hours due to continuous rain and snowfall.
“ Under given circumstances it is imperative that Union Government and J & K UT administration declare this week-long spell of bad weather in J & K as natural disaster and announce immediate relief package for farmers and other affected people”, Dr Shazad demanded.
