Bunjwah October 04:–In an effort to empower, integrate and provide livelihood to the locals of Bunjwah Indian Army organised a widespread campaign across the region wherein mushroom farming, as a source of income, was introduced to the general society. It was a joint initiative taken by the Indian Army and the District Agricultural Department wherein all necessary essentials alongwith spawn and compost was distributed free of cost on 21 Aug 2021 to 20 beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries were educated on various aspects of mushroom farming by the experts from District Agricultural Department empowering them to become self-employed. Training was also imparted on how to make the right kind of compost, cultivate and how to spawn and multiply a harvest. The locals showed encouraging involvement by setting up facilities in their own houses for cultivation of White Button Mushroom. The technical assistance by the agriculture department in monitoring the crucial factors such as temperature, humidity, moisture and light intensity on the mushroom farm has resulted in efficient productivity by the farmers. Special efforts by the Army were made, by sending routine patrols to monitor the new assignment taken up by the farmers and ensure that they stay motivated enough.
A mushroom bazaar was organised by the Army to create a replicable model that can help farmers get better incomes and crop prices negating intermediaries. To make the initiative economically sustainable the buyers were also invited to the venue to ensure that the farmers do not go around searching for buyers and simultaneously get a good price for their produce too. The novel initiative has received an overwhelming response, from both the local buyers and aspirational mushroom farmers. This has been another milestone achieved by the Indian Army and yet another step towards empowerment of making them self sustained. The villagers and local authorities profusely thanked the Indian Army for their all-inclusive approach in an effort to maintain bonhomie, brotherhood and harmony
