RAJOURI SEPTEMBER 22:–Tahira Rehman has become the second (first from the Gujjar community) girl from Rajouri district after Mawya Sudan to join the IAF.
Tahirah Rehman of Khorebani village in Khawas tehsil in Rajouri district–which is one among the remotest villages of the district in the Kotranka sub-district and is yet to be connected with road connectivity—has been selected for the grant of Short Service Commission in the Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) branch of Indian Air Force (AE(L), IAF)
In the month of June Mawya Sudan from Lamberi village in Nowshera sub-district in Rajouri district became the first woman officer from J&K to become a ‘fighter pilot’ in the Indian Air Force.
Tahirah Rehamn has joined the training on September 5 at Air Force Academy at Dundigal (Hyderabad) with her first rank as a Flying Officer.
Tahirah Rehman is the elder among the three siblings of Abdul Rehman, Retd Honorary Captain and presently living in Satwari area of Jammu City.
“Tahirah received her pre-primary education from a government primary school Khorebani and after that, all the three children received their education at the places of my postings,” said Abdul Rehman.
“After passing 12th class from the Army Goodwill Public School, Jammu Cantt she joined Indian Institute of Information Technology at Jabalpur in Madhya Pardesh and received B.Tech degree in the month of June this year” he added.
Tahirah appeared in the test to join the IAF and cleared it in the month of August.
When asked what was her dream, Abdul Rehman said“ All my children were motivated by the Indian Army’s uniform which I used to wear and they are keen to serve the country by joining the forces. My elder son is pursuing B.Tech from Ranchi and younger son is 11th class student in Army Goodwill Public School at Jammu”.
To provide better education for my children, we presently are living in Jammu city and frequently used to visit our village which still is not connected with road and we use to cover about 5-6 kilometers on foot from Mithayani.
There were celebrations in the village as the mother of Tahirah Rehamn most of the time live in Khorebani village.
Wahida Prism Khan was the first woman from Rajouri district in the Union Territory of J&K to Join the Indian Navy
Wahida Prism Khan, resident of Thanamandi town is one of five siblings of late Gulzar Ahmed teacher (who was killed by the militants inside the school in 2001) had joined the Indian Navy as Naval Surgeon and had become the first woman to command the annual parade at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.
