District Administration Rajouri and Jammu & Kashmir Cooperatives Union Celebrates International Day of Cooperatives

Cooperative societies provide one of the best platforms to generate self-employment among the youth; DC Rajouri

RAJOURI, JULY 03:Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative union Ltd in collaboration with District Administration Rajouri today celebrated the International Day of Cooperatives with the theme, “Rebuild Better Together.”

The main event was held in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dak Bungalow which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan.

GD Bakshi , General Secretary Cooperative union Jammu and Member NCDC Delhi said, the International Day of Cooperatives has been observed by cooperatives globally since 1923 and was formally declared by the United Nations General Assembly on the centennial of the ICA in 1995. It is observed yearly on the first Saturday of July.

Cooperatives Day is an opportunity to spread the word about how a human-centred business model based on cooperative values of self-help and unity, as well as moral standards of socially responsible, can reduce inequality, start creating shared prosperity, and react appropriately to the immediate effects of COVID-19.

The objective of the day is to raise awareness of cooperatives and to advance the cooperative movement’s principles of worldwide solidarity, economic efficiency, equality and global peace.

Linking of the cooperative societies with the J&K Bank, the opening of fertilizers units, bringing the cooperative bank on online mode etc were among the issues and demands raised by the public during the programme.

Prominent who spoke on the occasion includes, Adv Zaki, Mohd Qyoom Khan, and Nissar Rahi.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner said that there is a dire need to revive the cooperative societies keeping in view the increased unemployment rate as these societies provide one of the best platforms for generating self-employment to the youth.

The Deputy Commissioner added that the District Administration Rajouri is committed to ensuring the revival of the cooperative societies and concrete steps would be taken in this regard.

“All the cooperative societies properties in the district that have been illegally occupied will be evicted soon”, the Deputy Commissioner added.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the District Administration has decided to set up 5000 dairy units in the district and urged upon the cooperative societies to come forward for the success of this initiative as the same would benefit the unemployed youth of the district and would play a significant role in boosting the economy of the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the Deputy Registrar Cooperative society to weed out the non-functional cooperative societies in the district or make them functional at the earliest.

Anong the others, President MC Rajouri, Mohd Arif; VC MC Rajouri, Bharat Bushan Vaid, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr Sarfraz Hussain Soz, Tehzeem Dar, Sanjeev Sharma other prominent citizens, Societies members and media persons.
