4 years old case, ACB files charge-sheet against Cop.

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)– initially Vigilance Organisation Jammu (VOJ)– on Monday produced a charge-sheet against a policeman, Khursheed Ahmed resident of Bhattian (Thanamandi) in Rajouri district for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs 59,000 when he was an Investigation officer (IO) in a case in 2013 at Dharmsal police station.
The charge-sheet was filed in the court of Special Judge, anti-corruption at Rajouri and Khursheed is presently posted at District Police Lines, Poonch.
The case against Khursheed was registered in VOJ police station in 2016 under sections 5(1)(d) r/w section 5(2), 4-A of J&K, PC Act , Samvat 2006 after the outcome of verification of the complaint conducted by the ACB.
Head constable Khursheed in the year 2013 had accepted a bribe of Rs 59,000 from Abdul Khaliq s/o Faqir Ahmed r/o Kote Kabu after he was booked/arrested for trespassing and theft under sections 456/379 RPC (FIR 110/2013) at Dharmsal police station.
The complainant Abdul Khaliq was residing along with his family in a tented accommodation at Kote Kabu, where he had covered some portion of forest area for keeping his goats and sheep. On 4.10.2013 Khursheed came to the Dera (Temporary Shed) of complainant Abdul Khaliq and took him and his brother Aurangzeb to Dharmsal and kept in preventive custody.
Khursheed asked Abdul Khaliq to arrange Rs.40,000/- for his release and also contacted his brother-in-law to arrange the money.
“The accused demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs.27, 000/-and Rs.32,000/- on 08.10.2013 and 15.11.2013, respectively, making it a total of Rs.59,000/- for the release of complainant Abdul Khaliq” ACB charge-sheet reads.
During investigation, statement of complainant and other material witnesses recorded under section 161 CrPC have established guilt for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification by the accused Khursheed Ahmed.
After completing the investigation of case, sanction for the launching of prosecution of the accused public servant was also obtained from the competent authority and now ACB has filed the charge-sheet in this case.
The next hearing in the case will be held on 18.12.2020
