**Student Performance in Several Government Schools Falls Below Expected Standards; Education Department Seeks Explanation**

RAJOURI MAY 28:-The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (J&K BOSE) recently declared the results for Classes 10 and 12 for the academic session 2024–25. Following this, the Directorate of J&K BOSE observed that student performance in 21 government schools in the Rajouri district was significantly below the expected standards and deemed unsatisfactory.
In response, the Joint Director of the Education Department, Subah Mehta, issued show-cause notices to the headmasters and principals of these 21 schools, where pass percentages ranged between 30% and 55%, compared to the overall J&K BOSE pass percentage of 79.94%.
“The results of several government schools reflect a lack of adequate effort on the part of both teaching staff and school heads,” the notice stated. It further expressed concern over what was described as an indifferent attitude towards students’ education, students who are the future builders of the nation.
Senior officials also voiced their displeasure over the poor academic outcomes. Consequently, the headmasters and principals have been directed to explain the reasons behind the low pass percentages and to justify why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them.
