RAJOURI-DELHI NOV 16:-The Indian Navy is set to achieve another milestone in its indigenous shipbuilding program with the commissioning of Mahe, the first vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC). The induction ceremony will take place at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 24 November.
Named after the historic coastal town of Mahe on the Malabar Coast, the ship bears a crest featuring an ‘Urumi’, the flexible Kalaripayattu sword symbolising agility, precision, and lethal grace.
The Mahe-class ASW craft is equipped with torpedoes, multi-functional anti-submarine rockets, and advanced radar and sonar systems, enabling it to detect, track, and neutralise underwater threats in littoral zones.
Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, Mahe represents a major leap in India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in naval design and construction. Compact yet potent, the vessel combines agility, precision, stealth, and endurance—qualities essential for dominance in coastal waters.
