Historic Dunadi-Bunjwah Road in Kishtwar Falls Into Alarming Disrepair; Locals Warn of Highway Blockade Over Official Negligence

CHENAB VALLEY NOV 05:-The Dunadi-Bunjwah road, a vital historic artery linking multiple villages in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, is in a critical state of neglect, with residents and stakeholders voicing urgent concerns over the administration’s apparent indifference. Despite being a lifeline for connectivity, essential services, and economic activity, no major restoration or maintenance work has been undertaken since 2020, leaving the route severely damaged and hazardous.

Under the leadership of Ashiq Wani, a coalition of farmers, shopkeepers, and community members has been mobilised to draw attention to the worsening condition of the road, which includes deteriorating scuppers, culverts, parapets, and critical linkages. Locals lament the daily challenges posed by the disrepair, particularly for vulnerable groups—patients in need of urgent care, elderly citizens, and expectant mothers travelling to the District Hospital Kishtwar and the Government Medical College Doda.

“This road is not just a vital link; it is fundamental for the health, safety, and economic well-being of our community,” locals emphasised, sharing stories of delayed medical care and lost economic opportunities.

Beyond its impact on healthcare, the dilapidated road has crippled local businesses and agriculture, making transportation of produce costly and delivery of goods increasingly difficult for shopkeepers and farmers alike. Despite repeated appeals, the community has witnessed little action, and the authorities’ indifference has eroded hope.

Younus Keen, a dedicated resident, condemned the “deep slumber” of local bodies. He recalled that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was entrusted with upgrading the road, but progress has stalled, leaving the community disheartened.

Residents from Bunjwah, Patnazi, Buddhar Kither, and Patshalla have united in an urgent appeal to the Lieutenant Governor’s Administration and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, stressing the dire need for immediate intervention. They warn that, unless concrete repair and construction efforts
begin, villagers are prepared to stage protests and block the Batote-Kishtwar highway at Thathri. This growing resolve highlights the critical necessity for government action to restore this essential road, which remains the only viable option for daily commute, medical emergencies, and economic survival for the entire region. The community’s determination to escalate their demands through demonstration underscores the gravity of this infrastructural crisis and their unwavering commitment to securing essential repairs for their future.

MLA Waheed Para Questions Government Over Revival of Social Media Monitoring Policy

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

SRINAGAR NOV 05:-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para has questioned the Jammu and Kashmir administration over what he described as the “revival of social media monitoring policy” following the circulation of a document by the Office of the District Information Officer, Shopian.

The document, titled Annexure “A”, lists a detailed checklist of documents required from media persons for “authentication,” including Aadhaar, PAN card, appointment letters, salary statements, academic certificates, and links to their social media pages such as Facebook, YouTube, X (Twitter), and Instagram.

Para expressed concern that such measures reflect an attempt to impose “bureaucratic surveillance” on journalists and digital content creators, saying that the move undermines media freedom in Jammu and Kashmir.

He urged the government to clarify the purpose and legal basis of collecting such personal and professional data from journalists, calling it “a regressive step that discourages independent reporting and the role of free media in a democracy.”

The document from the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) has sparked debate within the media fraternity, with many questioning whether it amounts to reintroducing the social media monitoring mechanisms that had previously drawn criticism from journalist bodies and rights groups.

Modiji’s era, an era of peace in Jammu and Kashmir : Last writeup of Late Sunaina Mir

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

    BY SUNAINA MIR

PIRPUNJAL NOVEMBER 05::It has been since 1990 that our state, which is known as heaven on earth worldwide, is burning in the gruesome fire of terrorism. Our state has not only lost precious lives of armed personnel and civilians, but also property worth crores of rupees. Above all, we have lost all those beautiful moments of our kids which they sacrificed because of incessant curfews, stone pelting, cordons and other terror activities. People were fed up with that unending terrorism and wanted to put an end to that unhealthy atmosphere.

It was in 2014, when BJP came into power as a coalition with PDP. That government gave a start to a tsunami which began annihilating the spirit of terrorism. It is only because of our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategic intelligence that BJP succeeded in curbing terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. As per written records, there has been a 66% dip in terror activities, terror killings, stone pelting, cross-border insurgency and band calls by Hurriyat and other anti-national establishments.

As per CID report, 228 terror-initiated activities happened during the year 2018. These incidents declined to merely 43 in number till November 2023. In 2018, 189 encounters took place between security forces and militants; that number reduced to 48. We lost 55 precious lives of our civilians in 2018; this horrific number reduced to 13 till 2023. Our 91 army personnel sacrificed their blood for our motherland during the year 2014; that number reduced to mere 25.

Necessary to mention here is that our National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, with his intelligence and with the help of our strong army, has broken the backbone of terrorism by exposing Hurriyat leaders and crushing terrorists and terror outfits. Arrest of Hurriyat leaders has stopped terror funding in Kashmir, and they are no longer free to spoil the atmosphere of Kashmir by giving band calls, which had earlier spoiled the lives of Kashmiri people to a greater extent.

Innumerable arrests of people involved in terror activities by NIA have further declined the percentage of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Efforts made by BJP have not only improved the lives of people of Jammu and Kashmir but have also given a magnificent boost to tourism. Our heaven on earth has received the highest number of tourists of the last three decades this year. In short, BJP has turned terrorism into tourism, which has ensured a 100% rise in the economy of Kashmiri people.

The story of progress of our state of Jammu and Kashmir does not end here. Our state has received ₹2,153 crore for developmental projects for the year 2023. In addition to this, ₹6,000 crore of investments are in the pipeline. Our state Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has increased from ₹1 lakh crore in 2014–15 to ₹2,27,927 crore in 2022–23.

In the end, I just want to say that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, who once carried stones and bullets in their hands for hurting and killing armed personnel, are now busy working on computers and making their contacts with the world at large. The era of bomb blasts, stone pelting, bloodsheds and firings has been replaced by education, schools, colleges, medical colleges, management institutions, industries and infrastructure since Modi has taken charge of Jammu and Kashmir.
