Letter To “Honourable Chief Minister JammuandKashmir!!
GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL
SRINAGAR OCTOBER 28-2025:::
It is said that in the village of Sainik Colony–Bhatindi, the ownership rights of your 3 kanals of land have already been transferred, yet possession extends over more than 10 kanals.
Are you yourself willing to relinquish this illegal occupation, or should we wait for the government’s eviction team to arrive?
And if this land indeed falls under state or forest territory, then please present the construction permit in the Assembly, so that the same standard of transparency is upheld which you expect from others.
By the way, by rejecting PDP MLA Waheed Para’s bill today, you have proven that ‘ownership rights’ are reserved only for the privileged, not for the public.”**

Educated Youth Struggle for Jobs While Legislators Set to Get Massive Salary Hike
GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL
SRINAGAR OCT 28:-Across Jammu and Kashmir, thousands of highly educated youth — PhD, M.Sc., M.A., B.Ed. holders — continue to battle unemployment, depression, and hopelessness. Many have dedicated years to their education only to find themselves waiting endlessly for recruitment notifications that never come.
Yet, unlike teachers, engineers, or even low-paid workers, there is no educational qualification required to become an MLA.
In this backdrop, a House Committee of the J&K Legislative Assembly has recommended a 100% hike in the monthly salary of MLAs, raising it from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh, along with massive enhancements in perks and loans.
Proposed Benefits for MLAs
Current Benefit Proposed Benefit
₹1.5 lakh salary ₹3 lakh total package per month
₹10 lakh housing loan ₹75 lakh housing loan
₹10 lakh car advance ₹25 lakh car advance
₹12,000 PA allowance ₹25,000 PA allowance
₹1.10 lakh pension (ex-MLAs) Retained with hikesThe proposal also suggests increasing salaries and allowances of the CM, Ministers, Speaker, and Leader of Opposition — with retrospective effect from November 1, 2024.
The Committee argues that MLAs face increasing expenses due to their public roles, especially in the hilly terrain of J&K, and thus need better financial support.

Bitter Reality on the Ground
While people’s representatives push for financial comfort, thousands of youth with far superior qualifications
wait years for a single government vacancy — many crossing the upper age limit in the process.A jobless PhD today earns zero.
A legislator with no mandatory degree may soon earn ₹36 lakh annually + loans + perks + lifelong pension. This disparity raises serious questions about policy priorities and social justice.

NC Speaker Rejects Private Members’ Bills Moved by PDP’s Waheed Para and Sajad Lone
GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL
SRINAGAR OCT 28:-Two significant private members’ bills — one moved by PDP MLA Waheed Para and another by People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Lone — were rejected in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly this week, sparking political criticism and debate.
Waheed Para introduced a bill advocating recognition of proprietary rights for houses constructed on State-owned land, including Kacharia, Common, and Shamilat land. He argued that protecting the right to shelter falls within the ambit of Article 21 of the Constitution and would benefit thousands of occupants lacking legal status.
However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opposed the proposal, cautioning that legitimizing such structures could “open floodgates for land grab.” Citing examples, he emphasized that even his own relatives, who once had disputes over leased property, would not warrant such legislation:
> “My relatives were not illegal occupants. They had a lease which was violated by the other side. I would not bring such a bill even for my relatives. Then you bring religion and region into it.”
When Para refused to withdraw the bill, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather put it to vote. With only three members supporting it, the bill was defeated through voice vote.
A separate private member’s bill moved earlier by Sajad Lone — reportedly related to reservation provisions — also met the same fate, with the Speaker ruling it out.
CM Omar Abdullah later reiterated that granting ownership of illegally occupied government land is “neither practical nor lawful”, referring to the controversies and legal challenges surrounding the scrapped Roshni Act as a cautionary precedent.
