Eco-Park Inaugurated at Chandaji, Bandipora; A Model of Sustainability and Green Tourism

SRINAGAR OCT,25:-Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment Javed Rana today inaugurated a newly developed Eco-Park at Chandaji in Bandipora district — a remarkable transformation of a former waste dumping site into a vibrant green space.
The park has been developed using repurposed soil from the dumping site, setting a strong example of how waste can be converted into valuable ecological assets. Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability and proactive measures to combat climate change.
With its scenic location en route to Gurez Valley, the Eco-Park is poised to emerge as a promising eco-tourism destination. Apart from offering recreational space to locals, it is expected to generate livelihood opportunities and support the region’s tourism economy — all while preserving nature’s harmony.

Inter-District UT Level Cricket Competition Begins in Poonch Organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Poonch

POONCH OCT, 25:-As part of the YSS Activity Calendar 2025–26, the Inter-District UT Level Cricket Competition (Under-17 Girls) commenced today in Poonch, featuring teams from 14 districts across Jammu & Kashmir.
The opening ceremony took place at Sports Stadium Poonch and College Ground Poonch. Mohan Lal Sharma, ASP Poonch, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest at Sports Stadium, while Aurangzeb Ahmed, Vice Principal, SKC Degree College Poonch, served as the Chief Guest at College Ground.
Addressing the young sportspersons, ASP Sharma motivated them with the message: “Say no to drugs, yes to sports.” He appreciated the Department’s dedicated efforts toward youth engagement and sportsmanship.
The event is being held under the leadership of Smt. Anuradha Gupta (JKAS), Director General YSS, J&K UT, and the guidance of Smt. Vinakshi Koul (JKAS), Joint Director YSS. The overall supervision is being provided by Mr. Mohd Qasim, DYSSO Poonch, who lauded the enthusiasm of the participants and reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to nurturing grassroots talent.
The Directorate of YSS has constituted a Selection Committee to ensure a transparent and merit-based process for identifying outstanding players who will represent the Union Territory in higher-level competitions.
Mr. Vijay Kumar, Activity Incharge, coordinated the arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of matches. A team of dedicated officials from ZPEO, PEL, PEM, PET, and REK contributed to maintaining fairness and discipline.

MLA Rajouri Inaugurates Blacktopping Works on Key Road Links in Rajouri Block Stresses Quality Execution, Timely Delivery & Accountability

RAJOURI OCT, 24:-MLA Rajouri, Iftkhar Ahmed today inaugurated the blacktopping of two vital road projects — Khandli to Sankari and Shiv Mandir to Bakerwal Mohallah (Tandwal) — aimed at strengthening rural connectivity in Block Rajouri.
Executed by the Public Works Department (PWD), Roads & Buildings (R&B), these projects mark a significant step forward in improving road infrastructure and transportation facilities for residents of Panchayat Kotdhara, Sankari, Nagrota Mehra, Tandwal, and adjoining villages.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Iftkhar Ahmed underscored the importance of the developmental works, saying:
> “These roads are key lifelines that connect multiple habitations and support mobility of people, goods, and essential services. Their upgradation will boost accessibility, encourage local trade, and contribute to the overall development of the region.”
He directed the officials of PWD (R&B) to ensure strict quality control, transparency, and timely completion of the work.
> “There will be no compromise on quality. We are creating long-lasting public assets that reflect the expectations and trust of the people,” he added.
The inauguration ceremonies were attended by PRI representatives, officers from PWD (R&B), and a large number of local residents, who hailed the MLA’s initiative in addressing longstanding public demands.
People of Kotdhara, Sankari, Nagrota Mehra, and Tandwal expressed gratitude, stating that improved connectivity will shorten travel time, enhance access to education and healthcare, and bring a noticeable boost to local economic activity.
These works align with the broader developmental roadmap to improve rural infrastructure, strengthen road networks, and ensure equitable growth across Rajouri district.

He urged the new recruits to remain vigilant against forest fires, encroachments, and illegal activities that threaten the Union Territory’s green wealth.
Reiterating the OmarAbdullah Government’s focus on sustainable and people-centric governance, the Minister highlighted the importance of empowering tribal and forest-dependent communities through equitable development, livelihood security, and active participation in conservation efforts.
He encouraged the fresh pass-outs to serve with dedication, uphold environmental laws, and contribute to safeguarding J&K’s rich biodiversity for future generations.

The delegations raised multiple issues concerning the region, including youth unemployment, limited educational opportunities, inadequate infrastructure, and daily hardships faced by the local population.
Concerns related to the Forest Rights Act (FRA) implementation, cultural preservation, and holistic upliftment in both education and infrastructure sectors were prominently highlighted.
