GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL
The disruption delayed the transportation of fruit to markets across the country, forcing many growers to dump their produce much of which has now spoiled
SRINAGAR OCT 07:-Former Councillor Baramulla and Social Activist Nighat Mir expressed deep concern over the losses suffered by orchardists in Rafiabad due to the recent hailstorm in the area.
In a statement, Nighat Mir said that apple growers across north Kashmir, have been severely impacted by the prolonged closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. The disruption delayed the transportation of fruit to markets across the country, forcing many growers to dump their produce much of which has now spoiled.
With the highway closed, most orchardists delayed harvesting their apples, hoping the road would reopen soon. However, the incessant rains have dashed those hopes, destroying the fruit that was still on the trees,” she said. Nighat Mir called on the elected government who have been vocal about supporting growers to rise to the occasion and compensate the affected orchardists at Minimum Support Price (MSP) rates.
She appealed to the district administrations across north Kashmir to actively engage with the orchardists and provide the government with accurate assessments of the damage.

Led by Chairperson Masrat Jan and President Sajjad Ahmad Sholla, the organization stepped in to ease last-minute financial and material pressures and to ensure the weddings proceed with dignity and joy.
The assistance kits were provided after the foundation received urgent requests from families struggling to meet basic wedding needs. Each kit included essential household items, basic wedding apparel and accessories, and modest financial aid tailored to cover immediate expenses. The move is part of Smile Foundation’s emergency support efforts to address sudden needs among vulnerable households and to prevent crises that could disrupt important life events for women and families.
“Every wedding is more than a ceremony — it marks hope and a new start,” said President Sajjad Ahmad Sholla. “When families face unexpected hardships, we cannot wait. Our team worked quickly to assemble and distribute these kits so these sisters can begin their new lives with confidence and dignity.”
