PDP Leader Iltija Mufti Meets LG Manoj Sinha, Raises Concerns Over Apple Industry Crisis

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

SRINAGAR SEPTEMBER 16:-PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Monday called on Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and apprised him of the mounting crisis faced by the Union Territory’s apple industry due to the prolonged closure of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.

Heavy rains and flash floods have led to the closure of the critical highway over the past several weeks, leaving fruit-laden trucks stranded for days. Growers fear massive losses as the perishable produce remains stuck en route to markets outside the valley.

Iltija urged the administration to take urgent measures to ensure smooth passage of trucks and safeguard the livelihood of thousands of families dependent on the horticulture sector.

The National Highway Blockage: Our Fruit Growers Are Paying the Price — Where Is the Government?

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

SRINAGAR SEPTEMBER 16:-This is not just about traffic jams or political stand-offs. This is about our fruit growers—the backbone of our food supply—whose hard work is being destroyed by the ongoing National Highway blockade. While leaders hold endless meetings, thousands of crates of apples, pears, and other fruits are rotting on the roadside.

These growers invest everything—time, money, and hope—into their orchards. They already fight erratic weather, pests, and market fluctuations. Now, with blocked roads, their harvest cannot reach markets. Perishable fruits are wasted. Incomes are wiped out. Families are slipping into debt and despair.

This is not an inconvenience. This is an emergency.

And yet, where is the government?

    We demand answers:

Why has the government failed to reopen or provide alternate transport routes for essential supplies?

Why are small fruit growers left to suffer while big corporations find ways around the blockade?

Why is there no transparent relief plan or compensation for irreparable losses?

How many more families must collapse into poverty before this crisis is treated as urgent?

Development cannot remain a slogan while the backbone of our economy is breaking. Empty assurances are not enough—our growers need real solutions, now.

We cannot remain silent. We must stand with the farmers whose sweat feeds us all. Raise your voice, tag your leaders, and demand relief. The future of food security depends on what we do today.

No more delays. No more excuses. Act now.
