    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

SRINAGAR SEPTEMBER 05:-Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Farooq Inqlabi has strongly condemned the alleged life-threatening attack on incarcerated Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail. In a strongly-worded statement, Inqlabi termed the incident as “unfortunate and deeply concerning”, calling for an immediate judicial probe into the matter.

    > “I am deeply concerned by the reports of a life-threatening assault on MP Engineer Rashid within the high-security confines of Tihar Jail. This is not just a serious security lapse but also a stark reminder of the vulnerable conditions in which undertrial prisoners and political detainees are being kept,” Inqlabi said.

He emphasized that Engineer Rashid is not just an inmate but a democratically elected representative of the people, and any attack on him inside a custodial setup reflects a failure of the system to uphold the basic principles of justice and human rights.

    > “Such incidents raise serious questions about the safety of political prisoners and the sanctity of our democratic institutions. If even an elected MP is not safe in custody, what message is being sent to the rest of the country?” Inqlabi asked.

Calling the attack a “blot on the face of democratic accountability,” Inqlabi urged the Union Home Ministry and judicial authorities to intervene without delay and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

    > “There must be a thorough, impartial, and time-bound judicial inquiry into the matter. Engineer Rashid’s safety must be ensured, and the public deserves to know the truth about what transpired within the jail premises,” he added.

Inqlabi also appealed to civil society, human rights organisations, and political parties across the spectrum to raise their voice and ensure that justice is not delayed or denied.
