    Mission Director NHM reviews implementation of NTEP, other National Health Programs in Rajouri, Poonch District

    RAJOURI, AUGUST 22:-Mission Director NHM J&K Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary today chaired a meeting here at Dak Bungalow to review the implementation and progress of National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) and other National Health Mission Programs in the Rajouri and Poonch District.

    The discussions focused on treatment and testing protocols initiated in the twin districts under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), to achieve the government’s target of eliminating TB by 2025.

    The Mission Director assessed the district and block level progress, stressing the need for intensive screening campaigns, case notification and treatment of confirmed cases through active participation of Medical Colleges, District Hospitals, private practitioners and Community involvement. He emphasised on maximum utilisation of CBNAAT/TruNat machines, ensuring uninterrupted diagnostic services and improving drug supply chains and treatment adherence through ASHA workers and other health care workers working under NTEP program with regular follow-up, counselling and supervision.

    Principal GMC Rajouri was asked to train the Health Care Workers of both districts to improve their skill and knowledge regarding quality of sample and interpretation of X-rays.

    The role of ASHAs and community volunteers in active case finding, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas, was underlined along with the need for intensified screening drives for vulnerable groups.

    Implementation of Nikshay Poshan Yojana to provide timely nutritional and social support through direct benefit transfers was also reviewed.

    The District and block officials were directed to adopt innovative approaches to address logistics, manpower and other challenges in the border and hilly areas of the two districts to achieve TB elimination targets. The MD emphasized that elimination of tuberculosis requires coordinated efforts at every level from Medical College, peripheral hospitals and through community participation.

    The meeting also assessed implementation of programs for Maternal and Child Health, Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Non-Communicable Diseases and other flagship health initiatives. The Mission Director urged officers to create robust monitoring and accountability mechanisms, ensuring real-time data analysis and timely interventions.

    The Mission Director reiterated the government’s strong resolve to achieve a TB-free India as per national commitment and called for renewed commitment to accelerate progress towards elimination of Tuberculosis from J&K.

    RAJOURI, AUGUST 22:– Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma today chaired a meeting to review the implementation of Flagship Schemes in the district.

    The Deputy Commissioner took a detailed appraisal of performance of departments and progress of government schemes across Health, Social Welfare, Financial Inclusion, Urban Development, Housing and other civic programs.

    Taking stock of PMAY-Urban, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed applications received, processed, and houses sanctioned. He directed for timely release of installments, physical verification of progress and an updated status of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in municipalities, calling for strict adherence to set timelines.

    He directed the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) to expedite expenditure under approved schemes so that timely benefits reach the target groups.

    Stressing on universal health coverage, he instructed the Health Department to accelerate the generation of ABHA IDs for citizens.

    Reviewing the status of Block Public Health Units, the DC assessed their functional status, manpower availability and infrastructure requirements. He also laid emphasis on accelerating financial expenditure and project execution under AMRUT.

    On financial inclusion under Jan Dhan Yojana, the DC instructed the concerned departments to intensify efforts to achieve 100 percent saturation. Similarly, he reviewed the progress of housing units sanctioned under PMAY-Rural and stressed the need for their early completion.

    The Deputy Commissioner impressed upon all officers to remove bottlenecks and ensure efficient service delivery, adding that timely implementation of schemes is crucial for achieving developmental goals and strengthening grassroots governance.

    The meeting was attended by CPO Rajouri, Maqsood Ahmed, ACR, Mohd Jahangir Khan, while all district and sectoral officers participated virtually.

    SRINAGAR AUGUST 22:-International Journalist and Political Analyst Huda Zariwala, Farhan Kitab, and Muhammad Altaf Dar met with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, to discuss concerns regarding a viral photo circulating of Huda Zariwala on social media. The image inaccurately portrays Huda Zariwala as the sister of a victim in the Sehpora Ganderbal murder case.

    During the meeting, SSP Khalil Poswal assured the Delegation led by Huda Zariwala that police department’s support in addressing the issue. Huda Zariwala also submitted a formal memorandum requesting action to prevent further misuse of her image and to address the misinformation spreading online.

    “This misrepresentation on social media is not only damaging but also misleading to the public. We appreciate the prompt response and support from the Ganderbal police and hope for swift action to stop the spread of false information,” said Huda Zariwala.

    The group emphasized the importance of responsible social media use and urged authorities to take necessary steps to ensure that such incidents are handled with care and accuracy. SSP Poswal reiterated the police department’s commitment to supporting the community and taking appropriate measures in this matter.

    RAJOURI AUGUST 22:- MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed today chaired a high-level review meeting at the Dak Bungalow, Rajouri, with senior officials of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) to take stock of road infrastructure projects in the constituency.

    Contractors associated with various development works also attended the meeting. Officials presented detailed updates on the status of roads across different areas of Rajouri, outlining progress achieved as well as challenges hampering execution.

    Emphasising the critical role of reliable road connectivity in the region’s development, Ahmed directed the concerned departments to ensure timely completion of works. He also stressed the need for proper drainage systems along roads to mitigate waterlogging and erosion during monsoon months.

    The MLA set strict, time-bound deadlines for ongoing projects and cautioned against unnecessary delays. “Public infrastructure works must be completed within the stipulated timeframe. Inter-departmental coordination is vital to remove bottlenecks and deliver results to the people,” Ahmed said.

    During the review, he issued specific instructions for the early start of culvert construction at Kheora near the Industrial Area, a project expected to ease commuting problems for locals and businesses, particularly in the rainy season.

    OC BRO Major Ankit Uniyal, along with other senior officers, assured full cooperation and reiterated BRO’s commitment to quality standards in all works. “We will address the concerns raised and ensure timely delivery,” officials assured.

    Concluding the meeting, MLA Ahmed thanked participants for their active involvement and called for regular monitoring and field inspections to ensure progress on the ground. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to provide quality infrastructure to the people of Rajouri.

    SRINAGAR AUGUST 22:-The Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex came alive with energy and determination today as the three-day Wushu Selection Trials for the 20th Asian Games began in Srinagar. With nearly 200 athletes from across the nation vying for glory, the Valley has become the epicenter of India’s Wushu dreams.

    The trials were inaugurated by  Raksha Nikhil Khadke, who applauded the Wushu Association of India (WAI) for its meticulous planning and vision of achieving medals at the Games in Japan (September 19–October 4, 2026). She lauded Jammu & Kashmir as a natural hub for martial arts, urging the creation of a High-Performance Centre for Wushu in the region. Highlighting the broader impact, she said that hosting national and international events in the Valley would not only inspire athletes but also boost sports tourism.

    The current phase of trials features the Sanda (combat) event, while the Taolu (routine) trials will be held in Imphal later this month. As per the selection policy, eight athletes across seven categories (five men and two women) will ultimately make it to the national squad. Their final selection will depend on ranking tournaments, national camps, and international exposure until June 2026, when India’s Asian Games team will be finalized.

    The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests including ADGP Armed J&K Anand Jain (IPS), Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, WAI General Secretary Vijay Saraf, WAI CEO Suhel Ahmed, and National Chief Coach & Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo. The Selection Committee, led by Handoo along with international judges and technical experts, will oversee the process with fairness and transparency.

    With the weigh-in and draw of lots completed, the bouts are set to enthrall spectators over the next two days. For every participant, this is more than just a trial—it is the beginning of a dream to represent India, to fight with pride, and to bring home medals from the Asian Games.

    As Srinagar hosts this historic event, the Valley once again proves its place as a rising hub of talent, courage, and sporting excellence.
