    Tribal Affairs Minister Expresses Grief Over Death of Tribal Nomads in Kulgam Landslide

    SRINAGAR AUGUST 06:-Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of two members of the Gujjar-Bakarwal nomadic tribe from Mahore in a landslide incident that occurred in Kanzalpathri, Waltangu Nard area of Kulgam district.

    According to local administration, the incident took place when a stoneslide struck a dhok (temporary shelter), leading to the unfortunate death of two nomads and causing injuries to two others.

    The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

    The Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, promptly visited the site and directed immediate rescue and relief measures.

    Rescue teams and officials were pressed into service to provide timely assistance to the affected families.

    Minister Javed Ahmed Rana conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

    He also assured that the Government will extend all possible support to the next of kin of the deceased as well as to the injured persons, in coordination with the district administration.

    “We stand in solidarity with the affected families during this hour of grief. Every possible assistance—financial and logistical—will be provided to ensure their rehabilitation,” the Minister stated.

    The Tribal Affairs Department is in close touch with district authorities to monitor the situation and ensure that the required support reaches the victims without delay.

    POONCH AUGUST 06:-The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Poonch, successfully conducted the district-level cricket trials for Under-17 boys today at the Sports Stadium Poonch. The event was held as part of the Activity Calendar 2025–26, with the objective of identifying talented young cricketers to represent the district at the divisional, UT, and national levels.

    The trials were organized under the esteemed direction of Smt. Anuradha Gupta (JKAS), Director General, Youth Services and Sports, J&K UT, and the guidance of Smt. Vinakshi Koul (JKAS), Joint Director YSS. The overall supervision was provided by Mr. Mohd Qasim, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Poonch, who also interacted with the participants and encouraged them to pursue excellence in sports.

    Mr. Vijay Kumar, Activity Incharge, played a key role in the smooth and successful conduct of the event, ensuring efficient coordination and on-ground management.

    The trials witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, with a large number of young cricketers showcasing their skills in hopes of earning a spot on the district team. A dedicated technical panel comprising PEL, PEM, PET, and REK officials ensured a transparent, merit-based, and professional selection process.

    The DYSS Poonch reiterated its commitment to fostering a strong sports culture at the grassroots level and empowering youth through sports.     RAJOURI, AUGUST 06:– The under-14 football team of District Rajouri was ceremoniously flagged off today by Wali Mohd, ZPEO Baljarallan, who is currently overseeing the routine functioning of the District Youth Services and Sports Office, Rajouri. The team will participate in the Inter-District Divisional Level Football Competition being held in Jammu.

    The flag-off event was attended by staff members of the Youth Services and Sports Department and was marked by enthusiasm and encouragement. The initiative reflects the department’s efforts to promote sports culture and provide platforms for young talent.

    Officials also used the occasion to raise awareness about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign), highlighting the importance of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle for the development of young athletes.

    Addressing the players, Wali Mohd congratulated them on their selection and encouraged them to play with discipline, sportsmanship and dedication. He urged the team to uphold the pride of Rajouri and serve as ambassadors of a drug-free, progressive youth culture.

    JAMMU AUGUST 06:-In view of the growing crisis in the Jammu & Kashmir transport sector, a high-level meeting was held on August 2nd between the J&K Transporters Welfare Association (Regd.) and key stakeholders from across the region – Including unions, associations, and Independent operators.

    Concerned over the severe challenges, lack of government support, and absence of structured dialogue, the house unanimously resolved that strong, decisive leadership is the need of the hour. In one voice, all members proposed the name of S. Ajit Singh as Chairman to guide and represent the sector.

    Today a delegation met S. Ajit Singh at his residence, formally requested
    him to take charge, and felicitated him with garlands. Accepting the responsibility, the newly appointed Chairman led the gathering to Gurudwara Digiana Ashram to
    seek the blessings of His Holiness Mahant Manjit Singh for the growth end unity of the transport community – the backbone of J&K’s economy.

    Later in the evening, the Chairman, accompanied by a delegation of transporters,met the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, and submitted key pending issues and demands of the sector. The Divisional Commissioner assured that the grievances will be addressed in a time-bound manner.

    The Association reaffirms its commitment to protect the interests of every transporter and work closely with authorities for immediate and long-term reforms.

    RAJOURI, AUGUST 06:– As part of the ongoing Independence Day celebrations and the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Rajouri district witnessed a vibrant display of patriotism through a series of events organised under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma.

    Tiranga-themed activities such as Rangoli-making competitions, Rakhi-making contests and Tiranga rallies were held across various educational institutions and community centres. These initiatives aimed to foster national pride and encourage active public participation.

    Government Girls Higher Secondary School Thanamandi, PM SHRI Higher Secondary School Sialsui, HSS Soulki, HSS Kotranka, HSS Dhangri and several other institutions actively took part, showcasing students’ creativity and commitment to the national spirit.

    Adding to the celebrations, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri, in collaboration with the District Administration, organised a Har Ghar Tiranga exhibition using light standees to creatively highlight patriotism and unity.

    Tiranga exhibitions were also held in all government departments, depicting the evolution of the Indian National Flag and its historical significance as a symbol of unity and sovereignty.

    Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma appreciated the efforts of schools, departments and the public for their enthusiastic participation. He noted that such events not only promote patriotic fervour but also strengthen the emotional bond citizens share with the nation.

    The administration has appealed to all citizens to hoist the National Flag at their homes from August 13 to 15, 2025, and participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign with full enthusiasm.

    RAJOURI, AUGUST 06:-As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, Government Degree College (GDC) Rajouri organised an intra-college seminar today, providing a platform for students of all semesters to express their views on India’s independence and national development.

    The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Zakir Kalis, Convener, Cultural and Literary Committee. Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed moderated the seminar and maintained an engaging atmosphere throughout.

    Principal Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza addressed the gathering, recalling the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the importance of preserving democratic ideals.

    Students presented their views enthusiastically. The jury, comprising Prof. Ayaz Chowdhary, Dr. Ahsan Rizvi and Prof. Antima Gupta, evaluated the presentations. Ms. Vanshika (Semester III) secured first position, followed by Ms. Haseeba and Mr. Inzar (Semester V) in second and third positions respectively.
