SRINAGAR JULY 03:-Yasir Mandoo, Youth Congress President  Srinagar, has strongly condemned the recent opening of a wine shop in the busy Batmaloo market, calling the decision “condemnable” and urging authorities to reconsider.

In a statement shared on social media, Mandoo criticized the government’s move, highlighting the contradiction it presents amid ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir. “While the government is making efforts to curb the drug menace in J&K, allowing liquor outlets in busy markets sends a contradictory and harmful message,” he said. Mandoo stressed that such actions undermine public health initiatives and youth welfare programs in the region.

Expressing concern over the potential impact on young people and the wider community, Mandoo warned that the presence of liquor shops in crowded public spaces threatens the safety and wellbeing of youth. “It is crucial that policies align with the goal of safeguarding our youth and fostering a healthy environment. If this is not stopped, we will come on roads,” he added.

His remarks come amid rising worries about substance abuse and its effects on young people in Jammu and Kashmir. The Youth President’s stance echoes a growing call for stricter regulations on alcohol sales, particularly in areas frequented by youth.
