Block Khawas of Rajouri Still Struggles for Basic Amenities ; Residents Demand Better Infrastructure, Education and Healthcare Facilities

    LIAQAT ALI KHATANA

RAJOURI JUNE 09:-In the age of digital advancement and nationwide development campaigns, the people of Block Khawas in District Rajouri continue to live on the fringes of basic human necessities. Tucked away in the remotest part of the district, this far-flung block paints a stark picture of administrative neglect and infrastructural decay.

Despite repeated appeals and promises over the years, the residents of Khawas remain deprived of fundamental facilities such as proper roads, consistent electricity supply, clean drinking water, and essential educational and healthcare infrastructure. The existing amenities, where available, are reportedly in a dilapidated and non-functional state.

The local population has voiced a strong demand for the upgradation of the existing Primary Health Centre (PHC) to a Community Health Centre (CHC), citing the long distances patients are forced to travel in emergencies. The lack of well-equipped medical infrastructure continues to endanger lives in this isolated region.

Education too is in crisis. With no degree college in the block, a significant number of students—especially girls—are compelled to abandon their studies after completing the 12th standard. Many parents cite distance, lack of transportation, and financial hardship as key reasons behind this educational dropout.

“Our children dream of higher education, but without a local college, those dreams are often crushed. The government must establish a degree college in Khawas,” demanded a local resident during a community interaction.

Adding to the woes is the acute shortage of drinking water and erratic power supply, coupled with crumbling road connectivity that hampers mobility and economic activities. Seasonal rains often isolate the area further, making even emergency access a challenge.

The people of Block Khawas earnestly appeal to the Jammu and Kashmir Government to take immediate steps toward the development of this neglected region. “We are citizens of the same nation. We deserve the same rights and opportunities. The government must give space and voice to our long-pending demands,” a local community leader stated.

As Rajouri district continues to push for progress, it is imperative that blocks like Khawas are not left behind in the shadows of underdevelopment. It is not just a question of infrastructure—it is a matter of equality, dignity, and the right to a better life.
