RAJOURI MAY 27:-In an unexpected turn of weather this evening, a sudden windstorm swept through parts of City Sector Rajouri, causing partial damage to personal property and infrastructure. The storm, which lasted for a brief but intense period, resulted in the uprooting of several trees in various parts of the city, including areas near the Julla Bridge and the vicinity of District Police Lines (DPL) Rajouri.

Eyewitnesses reported that multiple personal vehicles parked along the roadside were partially damaged as large tree branches came crashing down. In addition to vehicular damage, strong gusts of wind also dislodged water tanks from the rooftops of several residential buildings in the affected sector. The tanks reportedly fell onto the streets and adjacent properties, adding to the extent of the damage.

In a related incident, the roof of Government High School Ujhan in Darhal was also partially blown off due to the high-speed winds. Steel sheets from the roof were reportedly dislodged and scattered across the school premises, raising safety concerns. Fortunately, no staff or students were present at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Local authorities have confirmed that despite the property damage, no loss of life or serious injuries has occurred. Teams have been deployed to assess the situation, remove fallen trees, and clear debris from affected areas to restore normalcy.

Residents are advised to remain cautious and secure any loose objects, as unpredictable weather patterns continue to pose risks across the region. Further updates will follow as assessments continue.

RAJOURI MAY 26:-A historic chapter has begun for the people of Darhal, as the newly upgraded road from Darhal to Upper Simbli via Patathana and Hariban has been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). This 6.2-kilometer stretch of road is more than just asphalt — it represents the first-ever road connectivity to some of the most remote and elevated villages near the Pir Panjal mountain range.

The road directly connects 14 hill villages — including Nambal, Patathana, Hill Katera, Chaka Khet, Kandi, Takki, Kala, Phonta Wali, Jhanda Wali, Simbli Gali, Khila Doga, Mohrian, Hariban, and Dogian — many of which had never seen a vehicle before.

Until now, students and teachers had to walk long distances over rough terrain. With the new road in place, access to schools has dramatically improved. Teachers now arrive on time, students attend classes more regularly, and schools have reported a marked rise in academic results and exam scores. Education, once a distant dream, is now within reach for hundreds of children in the region.

For many families, the road project has meant more than mobility — it’s also brought livelihood opportunities to their doorsteps. Local laborers were employed during construction, and new jobs in transportation and small-scale commerce are emerging as a result. For the underprivileged, especially daily wage earners, this development is proving to be a game-changer.

The scenic spot of Simbli Gali, now accessible by road, is already drawing attention as a potential eco-tourism destination. The people of Darhal have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the government, celebrating the project as a long-awaited blessing that connects them to the rest of the region — socially, economically, and culturally.

In the words of a local elder, “This road has not just joined our villages — it has joined our hopes with the future.”

As the newly built road carves its way through the mountains, it also paves the way for progress, dignity, and prosperity in this once-forgotten corner of Jammu and Kashmir.
