Negligence in Replacement of Poles in Pyt Narol Block Mendhar ; Authorities Remain Silent as Public Safety Hangs in Balance :Qureshi

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

MENDHAR MAY 24:-Prominent social activist Tanveer Iqbal Qureshi has raised serious concerns over the delay in the replacement of dangerously damaged and leaning electric poles in Pyt Narol Block Mendhar, expressing deep frustration at the alleged inaction of the concerned department.

“Despite repeated public outcries and local complaints, the department has remained a mute spectator, ignoring the urgent need to replace the damaged poles posing a direct threat to the lives of residents,” Qureshi said. “The situation is not only alarming but also a blatant example of administrative negligence.”

He added that if any unforeseen incident or loss of life occurs due to the collapse of these poles, the responsibility will lie squarely on the shoulders of the concerned authorities who have failed to act in time.

Qureshi pointed out that several areas within Pyt Narol are dotted with electric poles that are either broken, severely tilted, or supported makeshift measures — making them vulnerable to collapse, especially during rain or strong winds. The absence of preventive maintenance and proactive planning has made the local population extremely vulnerable.

“This is not just about infrastructure; it’s about human lives. We cannot wait for a tragedy to strike before waking up. The department must be held accountable for its failure to act,” he stated.

He further urged the District Administration and higher authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter and direct the concerned department to initiate the replacement of poles on a war footing. He emphasized that public safety should be the top priority, not bureaucratic delay.

Tanveer Qureshi called on civil society, local representatives, and media to amplify this issue so that pressure mounts on the administration to fulfill its duties. “Let us not wait for a mishap to issue condolence messages. Prevention is better than cure.”

Says J&K has always been land of peace; Pahalgam attack wounded the soul of India, war-like response was justified

    NADEEM NADU

SRINAGAR MAY 24:-Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Saturday said that Islam is a religion of peace and harmony, stating that the land of Jammu and Kashmir has always been Darul Salam the abode of peace.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a new guest house at Dargah Hazratbal, LG Sinha, according to the news agency JKNS, quoted verses from Surah Nissa and said, “Among the names of Allah in the Quran is ‘Arsalan’ meaning peace and security. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) repeatedly emphasized that the path to Allah is peace. Jannat is called Darul Salam the abode of peace. Jammu and Kashmir, too, has always been Darul Salam.”

He added, “Some people have left no stone unturned to destroy this Darul Salam (J&K) and all of us know who they are. They need to be punished for their misdeeds.”

LG Sinha called the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack an assault on Kashmir’s soul. “The victims were asked their religion before being killed. It was a deliberate attempt to destroy the spirit of Kashmir and wound the soul of India,” he said.

Praising the swift military response, he added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that any terrorist act against India will be considered an act of war. This time, terrorists were taught a lesson as nine terror camps were destroyed in just a few minutes.”

He said the people of Kashmir rose in unison against the terror attack, “This is the new face of Jammu and Kashmir resolute and intolerant of terror and its sponsors. The entire world witnessed the solidarity of Kashmiris with the victims.”

LG Sinha concluded, “Terrorism has no place in this sacred land that houses Baba Amarnath and Mata Vaishno Devi. Peace and unity are our greatest strength.” (JKNS)

Hold PSU, Parliamentary Panel Meetings In Kashmir To Allay Public Fears, Revive Tourism: JK CM At NITI Aayog Meet

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

NEW DELHI MAY 24:-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday proposed a dual approach to resuscitate Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector, severely impacted by the Pahalgam terror attack, urging the Centre to mandate PSUs to hold meetings in Kashmir and to convene parliamentary committee meetings there.

Speaking at the Governing Council meeting of the NITI Aayog under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah also raised the issue of recent shelling from Pakistan that claimed 23 lives in Poonch, Rajouri and north Kashmir and underlined that the construction of individual bunkers for residents is necessary.

Acknowledging the severe impact of the recent events on the vital tourism sector, Abdullah proposed that as an immediate step, the government should direct its public sector undertakings (PSUs) to hold their meetings in Kashmir.

He also strongly pitched for holding of parliamentary consultative committee and parliamentary standing committee meetings in Jammu and Kashmir.

These concerted efforts by the government will significantly alleviate public fears, foster a renewed sense of security and trust, and ultimately pave the way for the revival of tourism in the Kashmir valley, bringing much-needed economic relief and a return to normalcy, he added.

During his extempore speech, the chief minister hailed the public’s defiance against the April 22 Pahalgam attack while simultaneously seeking the Centre’s attention for the region’s security, tourism and economic revival.

The security challenges post-Pahalgam have severely impacted Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, particularly its crucial tourism sector — a significant source of livelihood for many in the region.

Abdullah emphasised that while the nation mourns the loss of lives in the Pahalgam massacre, the memory of the 23 people who died due to shelling from across the border must not be forgotten.

The speech began with the chief minister commending the widespread condemnation from the people of Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam massacre, which claimed 26 lives.

He also extended his gratitude to the central leadership, including the prime minister, for its crucial assistance in protecting Kashmiris targeted by anti-social elements in the rest of the country in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack.

“When the victims of the Pahalgam massacre are remembered, the nation should also not forget 23 people who lost their lives in shelling from across the border as they were also killed by shells that emanated from Pakistan,” he said, drawing a direct link between the violence and its source.

India launched Operation Sindoor and targeted nine terror camps, including the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba outfits, on May 7. This was followed by heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB).

In a move to bolster civilian safety in vulnerable areas along the LoC and the IB, Abdullah stressed the urgent need for constructing individual bunkers for residents.

The call for individual bunkers highlights the persistent threat faced by border communities while the push for government-led tourism initiatives aims to rebuild confidence and economic stability in the valley. (Agencies)
